HIGHLIGHTS FROM SUMMER CAMP AT WOODLEAF!

We had a crew of 15 campers from Camarillo attend our Young Life "Woodleaf" camp last month which included 5 girls. One month prior to camp we did not have any girls signed-up to go. But our prayers were answered! In the 11th hour, 5 girls signed up for camp, and the needed funds were provided. All but two campers needed financial help from fundraising, and our Lord provided this year through our Flamingo Flocking fundraising efforts. We do flamingo flocking every year and typically raise between $1,500 to $2,000. But this year our need was much greater, and that need was met. We raised over $4,000 from flocking! More importantly our YL kids saw our Lord answer their prayers for their fundraising efforts.

We had a great week at camp along with about 400 other campers from other cities. About 30% of the campers (camp wide) stood up for the “say so” at the end of camp indicating their desire to follow Jesus or to re-commit themselves to Him! This included 3 boys from our area along with several students in our area who indicated they are still considering it but weren’t quite ready. It was one of the best camps that I’ve been to in terms of great weather, and all seeing our campers really enjoying the activities with each other along with quality one-on-one conversations between leaders and kids.

Lost Canyon Young Life Summer Camp 2025.

We had an amazing week at camp this past week at Lost Canyon!

Seeds have been planted, and the kids all had a great week and seem eager to grow in their faith and attend winter camp along with inviting their friends.

The camp had over 500 campers representing a couple dozen different communities. At the final "Club" of camp our camp speaker asked those who had committed themselves at camp to follow Jesus to go up to the stage. To our utter amazement over half the campers lined-up to go on stage!! Our Lord gets all the glory! We can encourage kids and help kids get to camp, but only our Lord can open their hearts to His word and to Himself. Our Lord is on the move among our youth! I have also been seeing this on campus this past school year with our record attendance at our lunch Clubs.

We have much to be thankful for!

The Camarillo Young Life is at Lost Canyon in Arizona. They arrived there safely on Sunday and now are having enormous fun! Part of the Summer Camp fun is learning about the love Jesus has for each one of us.

Our prayer is that those who already know the Lord will grow closer to Him and those that don't know Him yet as their personal Savior will invite Him into their heart and life on the last day, June 12.

I had the most wonderful time with 2 of the Young Life ladies that I mentor. One of the sisters, who was also involved in Young Life Camarillo, was able to join us. We shared lots of laughs and saw many seals, as I was chauffeured around the Ventura Harbor on a swan pedal boat. I only did pedaling until my hip bursitis started acting up.

This experience was made possible by the Ventura County Fire Department and Crystal Stratton--I received the $45 gift card to the Ventura Boat Rentals at the 2024 VCFD Volunteer Appreciation Lunch.

Exciting news! Tonight was the first Camarillo Young Life (CYL) evening club since COVID forced us to stop. Students from both Camarillo high schools were in attendance. The students were attentive. Kevin's message included retelling the story of Jesus' first miracle.

This morning, 10 high school boys, 2 staff and 3 volunteers boarded a bus headed for Lost Canyon in Arizona. They will return on July 11. While at Young Life summer camp, they will be presented with the Gospel in various creative ways and participate in many fun activities. Most of them are from unchurched families. May their lives be forever changed because of this experience.

Four students received partial scholarships to help cover their cost of camp, and all four worked hard (along with other students) at fundraising to make up the difference. Thanks to those of you who donated to our camp scholarship fund! I know our Lord has great things in store for our campers this upcoming week!
