Is the Law abolished?

Paul answers by claiming that the Law is not done away with. None of God’s words will ever perish or derogate. The Law will always serve the purpose God intended—to reveal the unrighteousness of people, a truth we see in the final chapters of Deuteronomy. Those who are in Christ, however, are free from the Law, and this is not the same thing. The Law is not abolished, we are. We die to our flesh, and a new heart is given to us—and so the Law has accomplished its purpose in us. 👇👇

What if Armageddon is not a scary future battle where God will defeat His enemies? After all, Scripture teaches that Christ won the victory on Calvary–leaving no battle left to be won.

Har-Magedon, or Armageddon, is Mount Megiddo. John appropriates this historic location where God’s people claimed victory over their enemies (cf. Judges 4; 7) as a sign (cf. 15:1) to show Christ’s promise—His church will have the victory no matter what is suffered by whose hand. God prepared the way for persecution. He is sovereign over it. He deals the final blow against the kingdoms of darkness at the cross in the First Century AD. Victory is, then, only in Christ, and His work of defeating darkness, sin, and death is finished at the crucifixion.

When God sees Noah as the only righteous one on the face of the earth, he means that Noah is the only patriarch still alive in the family line of Seth--the offspring of the woman (cf. 3:15). The story of Noah is not disconnected from the previous chapters in Genesis, and this genealogy makes a point to purposefully connect Noah to Seth as the promised seed.

Original Sin, The Fall of Humankind, and God's discipline against the snake and woman are part of the good news we present as Christians. We seem to only ever focus on how Adam and Eve sinned and brought us all down.
