Café Grace

Café Grace Café Grace will be a "pay-what-you can" cafe committed to eliminating hunger, reducing food waste a Our vision

A "pay-what-you-can" is one in which those who can afford to pay make a donation of the suggested meal price or more if they desire, and those who cannot afford t pay volunteer to work for an hour in exchange for their meal. In order to control food waste and keep cost low, fresh locally grown food is used and menus are based on what is seasonally available, as well as the food on hand. The first

of "pay-what-you-can" cafe was started by Denise Cerreta and has now grown into a world-wide movement called One World Everybody Eats. Most staffing is provided by volunteers and the cafe provides a means for everyone to "pay it forward." It is also a means for building community as people from diverse socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds come together around the table.

Between four months and countless hours spent researching, demolishing, building, painting, staining, and cleaning, Mark Setzer has been volunteering with One Acre Café from day one of renovation.

“I learned when I was younger that you never let a person go hungry no matter who they are,” says Mark Setzer on his interest in One Acre.

Our society has strayed from being a community; we stay boxed up in our cars and in our fenced in backyards. But community is the center of One Acre Café and the center of Mark’s involvement with the café.

Mark says, “We need to get back to being a community, it’s a requirement of society.” Working together with others in the community towards a common goal has brought a new purpose to Mark’s life.

“I can see One Acre becoming the real center of the community, and tying everything together, businesses, colleges, neighborhoods, and downtown,” says Mark.

Daily work on the renovation of the café has made Mark excited for the café to open and the first group to come in and eat. “They will leave with smiles on their faces, and when they come back a second time, it will be even better,” says Mark.

Thank you to Mark and all our other faithful volunteers for giving their time to serve this community.
