Our protective services team work tirelessly to assist the older adults we serve. Please take a moment to watch the hearing and learn about the work we do.
Last week, the Senate Aging and Youth Committee held an important hearing on how protective services are administered in Pennsylvania through its 52 Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs). Pennsylvania Department of Aging Secretary Jason Kavulich, P4A’s Rebecca May Cole from P4A, Lehigh County’s JR Reed, and Berks County’s Jessica Jones shared sworn testimony detailing the protective services investigation process.
Protective services staff routinely enter unsafe or uncertain situations, often without backup, because an older adult may be in danger. They undertake this challenging and emotionally demanding work with commitment and empathy, balancing two sacred duties: keeping older adults safe and preserving their right to autonomy. They are the unsung heroes of the aging department. 💙
If you're interested in learning more about how AAAs conduct protective services investigations and the safeguards in place, we encourage you to watch the full hearing.
