They are affordable, sometimes gifted, and , sound fantastic because we are dedicated to our craft, - We also take donations of drums and gift them once renovated. We work hard to ensure all of our drums are in good to great++ conditions before they leave our protection. All glitter or sparkle finishes are hand applied, using techniques that are our own. We do not use polyurethane or any other pla
stic products unless noted or normally accepted as routine in the custom and hand built drum building community. Polyurethane, in particular, imparts a "plastic" tonal component to drums that many people, when educated to interpret tonal differences find unwelcome. Much of the work of custom re-creations is performed completely by hand, and may not seem orthodox to many people that are not trained in woodworking, and many who are woodworking novices and pros alike do not understand our techniques. Since much of this work involves sanding, in particular sanding of edges, it seems to some that it does not accomplish the same results as using expensive machinery. This is not true. Drums are not as much a "precision" instrument as many people are lead to believe. Now, if you are playing in a drumline, or recording in an orchestra, or any other highly delicate work, perfectly built snare drums are essential. Most drums are just not tuned effectively, with the proper head selection, to bring out the characteristics of the wood and the other resonant qualities of the complete drum. This has more to do with bad sounding drums than "the perfect edge" This is not to say that edges do not play a tremendously important role in drum construction, but reasonably well made drums, with no gouges in the edges, will tune up and sound fine (with proper heads). However, 98.5% of the worlds drummers will not need this level of perfection. Tuning is the main component of making a drum sound good, and as long as the drum is in good condition and reasonably in round (and the drummer in question displays good technique), 99.9% of people will not be able to detect the slightly different nuances of this effect. Which brings us to the next paragraph. Any good drummer, given good heads and well tuned drums will sound at least presentable on any drum set. What we are interested in is helping the disadvantaged kid down the street get a music education. It has been well documented over the past decade or two that music and art education are as important, if not more so, than maybe even state history. Please don't blast me for this statement, I am only parroting the statistics. The goal of CoffeeHouse Custom Re-Creations is to get good drums to good drummers for the purpose of playing in live situations, and in quiet, intimate settings. We can also get you set up with big, loud, cutting drums as well. Drums that serve you in many ways, mainly to sound great, and also to keep you from having to take your expensive kit into a war zone, namely many playing environments, drums you can be proud to display, yet not be overly concerned if some drunk smashes your bass in a barroom brawl. This is the absolute beauty of playing our CoffeeHouse Re-Creations. They are affordable, sound fantastic because we are dedicated to our craft, and so very affordable that the above scenario is no longer scary. This accomplishes our goal of getting decent quality drums in the hands of youth that have no other economic means to continue their craft.
