Fun, fun day at the April Homestead for Geo-Caching Pioneer Style with the GS Silver Trefoil Alumnae.
Four Junior scouts went through the course and they had a lot of fun. They used compasses and paces for part of the course, trail blazes and trail markings for the other parts. They had four stations to navigate to and four actors with which to interact- a blacksmith, a rancher, a neighbor and a dairy maid. At each station they had an action to do such as reciting the GS promise, singing a song they had just learned at the start of the day, telling a knock-knock joke and naming the cow (now named Petunia.) They also needed to trade something in their sack for something they would use when they ended up at Homestead. When they reached Homestead the installed a Return This Way trail mark.
Once at Homestead, girls snacked on journey cakes also known as Johnny cakes with some homemade butter (from the dairy maid) and strawberry jam (from the neighbor).
They used a hammer from the blacksmith on the leather “scraps” from the rancher to hand stamp bookmarks.
