Remembering Bishop Burchell

It is with gratitude to God and faith in the Risen Christ that I announce to you the death of Bishop Emeritus, Burchell McPherson. Bishop Burchell passed over fully into our God, who is love (1 Jn 4:16), inseparable (Rom. 8:38-39), at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, the Solemnity of the Annunciation of Our Lord, after a long struggle with poor health.

We thank God for Bishop Burchell’s many years of dedicated ministry among us – as a lay pastoral worker, deacon, and priest of the Archdiocese of Kingston, and as the Third Bishop of our Diocese of Montego Bay from 2013 to 2023.

See details below of the funeral services for Bishop Burchell.

Let us accompany our beloved brother in prayer as he is brought home on the shoulders of the Good Shepherd.

Bishop John D. Persaud
Apostolic Administrator
Diocese of Montego Bay

PRESS RELEASE (July 9, 2024)

FATHER BAPTISTE HELPING HURRICANE VICTIMS!

Hurricane Beryl arrived early this season, only to create havoc and mass destruction in Jamaica.

Today, a priest living in The Villages provides financial support to feed and shelter the immediate needs and well-being of those impacted by Beryl.

Friends of the Roman Catholic Mission Diocese of Montego Bay is a Florida Registered 501(c)3 Non-Profit Organization currently helping, but more aid is needed!

This charity was established three years ago by Father Glen P. Baptiste, a Catholic priest who, before moving to Central Florida, was assigned to the Diocese of Montego Bay and served the homeless and unemployed Jamaicans living in the Island hills.

While his work continues to help the poor in Jamaica through this non-profit organization, Beryl has widened the need for immediate assistance for this tiny island!

Many Jamaicans remain without adequate water and electricity due to damage caused by the hurricane. These people are amazingly strong and resourceful but need help. Any donation will help these amazingly kind people rebuild and return to normalcy and safe living conditions.

To donate by check, make payable to Friends of the Roman Catholic Mission Diocese of Montego Bay, Inc. and send it to Friends of the Roman Catholic Mission Diocese of Montego Bay, Inc., c/o Father Glen P. Baptiste, PO Box 1665, Wildwood, FL 34785-1665.
Credit cards are also accepted on our secure website: www.friendsofthepoor.net.
