Music to Life

Music to Life Connecting musicians with resources needed to realize their bold visions for community change. Music to Life builds activism through music.

A national nonprofit founded in 2000 by Noel “Paul” Stookey (of the 1960’s folk trio Peter, Paul & Mary) and his daughter, Elizabeth Stookey Sunde, Music to Life has collaborated with an extensive network of artists, businesses, music industry leaders, and nonprofit organizations to explore how music can create positive, measurable social change in our communities. Our educational panels have trav

eled to conferences and schools around the country; we have delivered multimedia presentations on the historical legacy of music for social change and its impact on the issues of our time; and we have created engaging music-driven productions on behalf of environmental, human rights, and immigrant advocacy groups. We have reached tens of thousands of people through the power of music. Music to Life's Activist Musician Accelerator is a ground-breaking collaboration among activist artists and community and social service organizations to deepen the impact of innovative music-driven programming – the first incubator of its kind for social change musicians and their communities. The Accelerator is a paid professional development opportunity that connects activist artists with each other and the mentors, partners, and resources they need to build effective music-driven social change programs. These innovative approaches measurably revitalize our communities - empowering vulnerable populations, galvanizing supporters, and raising awareness - through the power of music. Dolly Parton understood music as something bigger than entertainment. 🦋

It was a way to tell stories, bring people together, and give a voice to experiences that might otherwise go unheard. She believed deeply in the ability of a song to reach people—and she spent her life putting that belief into practice.

Dolly showed us what happens when an artist embraces that power, using her platform to uplift, inform, and care for others. In honor of her extraordinary life, our team recommits to supporting artists who use their creative gifts to build connection, strengthen communities, and bring real change to the world.

We are deeply saddened by her passing, but our gratitude is endless. Thank you, Dolly, for showing us all how to lead with heart, generosity, and song. 🎵

💜 Happy National Nonprofit Day!

Today, we’re celebrating what makes nonprofits possible: people who believe that change is possible and choose to do something about it.

At Music to Life, we believe music can be more than a creative expression. It can be a catalyst for connection, a tool for advocacy, and a powerful force for change.

But this work doesn’t happen alone. It happens because of the artists who show up, the partners who believe in the mission, and the supporters who make this work possible.

Today, we’re grateful for everyone who believes in the power of music to move people and move change forward.

Here’s to the artists, changemakers, and communities making a difference—and to the nonprofit organizations helping them do it.

Happy National Nonprofit Day from Music to Life! 🎶

Artists have the power to lead, inspire, and create change—and the right tools can help them take that impact even further. 💜

At Music to Life, we believe artists deserve more than encouragement to make a difference. They deserve the community, resources, and opportunities to turn their vision into action.

We’re grateful to Marcella Simien, a Music to Life Juried Artist and Spring 2026 MCA Academy Artist, for sharing what being part of this community has meant to her. A ninth-generation Creole artist, touring musician, teaching artist, and yoga instructor, Marcella brings together music, education, wellness, and cultural tradition in powerful ways. Her work reflects the many ways artists can use their creativity to foster healing, empowerment, and connection.

We’re honored to be part of Marcella’s journey—and inspired by the work she and so many Music to Life artists are doing to expand what’s possible through music.

🎶 You have the vision. Do you have the roadmap?

Every meaningful project starts with an idea—but turning that idea into lasting social impact takes planning, support, and the right tools.

The Musician Changemaker Accelerator (MCA) Academy helps artists move beyond inspiration by equipping them to develop community-centered music projects that create real change. Through hands-on learning, personalized coaching, and a network of fellow changemakers, participants leave with more than an idea—they leave with a plan.

If you're ready to turn your vision into action, we'd love to help you take the next step.

📅 Applications for the Spring 2027 MCA Academy are open through August 14, 2026.

🎶 Big ideas need the right community to help them grow.

One of the things that makes the Musician Changemaker Accelerator (MCA) Academy unique is its intentionally small cohort experience. Each year, a select group of musicians is chosen to join a community of changemakers who are committed to using music as a tool for social impact.

With a small cohort, artists have the opportunity to build meaningful connections, collaborate with peers, receive personalized guidance, and learn alongside other musicians who share their passion for creating change.

Over the course of this 6.5-month online accelerator, participants gain the skills, resources, and support they need to transform their ideas into community-focused projects with lasting impact.

If you’re a musician with a vision for creating positive change through music, this is your opportunity to grow your impact alongside a dedicated community of fellow changemakers.

📅 Applications for the Spring 2027 MCA Academy are open through August 14, 2026.

Music has the power to create connection, inspire change, and bring people together. 💜

At Music to Life, we’re grateful to walk alongside artists who are using their creativity to make a difference in their communities.

We’re thankful to Jesus Andre Olivas, AKA Waves the Creator, for sharing what being part of the Music to Life community means to him. A Music to Life Juried Artist, MCA Workshop participant, and member of our Artist Advisory Council, Jesus brings his experience as an artist, producer, and mentor to help shape and strengthen our community. His journey reflects the impact that can happen when musicians have opportunities to connect, grow, and use their music for positive change.

Stories like Jesus’ inspire us to continue building spaces where artists can find community, resources, and encouragement as they turn their vision into action.

🎶 Jesus also has new music out! Visit wavesthecreator.com to listen and learn more about his work.
