Congratulations to Sergeant Michael Cygan on an incredible 21½-year career with the Wilbraham Police Department.
Twenty-one and a half years is an impressive milestone, but Mike's legacy isn't just measured by the time he served. It's measured by the officers he mentored, the coworkers he was always there for, and the countless people in our town whose lives he made a little better—often without ever asking for recognition.
Mike, thank you for your dedication, your leadership, and the example you've set throughout your career. You've made a lasting impact on this department and this town.

The Wilbraham Police Department proudly congratulates Sergeant Michael Cygan on his retirement after 21½ years of dedicated service to the Town of Wilbraham, Massachusetts, USA.

Michael joined the Wilbraham Police Department in 2005, bringing with him nearly a decade of prior law enforcement experience. Before beginning his career, he studied Criminal Justice and Fisheries & Wildlife Law Enforcement at Franklin Pierce University, UMass Amherst, and Hesser College. He is also a graduate of the 11th MPOC at the Mptc Regional Police Academy-Boylston.

Over the past 21½ years, Michael has worn many hats within the department. He has served as a Patrol Officer, Court Officer/Investigator, R.A.D. Women's Self-Defense Instructor, Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) member, Field Training Officer (FTO), Drug Abuse Response Team officer (DART), Acting Sergeant, and ultimately Sergeant after his promotion in February 2024.

Beyond his official duties, Michael has been a tireless advocate for his fellow officers. He served as President of the The New England PBA, Inc. Local 120 for 11 years, President of the Wilbraham Police Relief Association, a representative for the Massachusetts Police Association, and organizer of the now-annual WPRA Golf Tournament. His leadership, dedication, and willingness to serve extended far beyond his daily responsibilities.

While careers are often measured in years, Michael's legacy will be measured by the people he mentored, the officers he supported, and the countless members of the community whose lives he touched along the way.

Michael, thank you for your unwavering commitment to the Town of Wilbraham, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, your fellow officers, and the law enforcement profession. Your service has made a lasting difference, and your presence will be missed.

Congratulations on a well-earned retirement. May this next chapter be filled with family, friends, new adventures, great rounds of golf, successful hunting and fishing trips, and plenty of time around the smoker perfecting your next masterpiece. You have certainly earned it.

🚨UPDATE 🚨 The missing 16-year-old has been located! He is being transported to the hospital for evaluation. He was found with his dogs.

Monson police are still searching for a missing 16-year-old male today. Some residents may have gotten an Emergency Alert on their phone about it.

Anyone with information should call Monson Police Department through Westcomm Regional Dispatch at 413-594-1639.

🚨 HEADS UP, RIDERS 🚨

Just like hummingbirds returning from their winter migration- it is that time of year where criminals are back out stealing dirt bikes in the middle of the night.

At this time no Monson residents have reported any thefts, but we are hearing from area police departments that the thefts have started back up.

REMINDER- THESE THEFTS ARE OFTEN TARGETED 🎯

HOW CRIMINALS LOCATE BIKES TO STEAL:

-attending races or meet-ups, following you home or placing a GPS tracker on the bike / trailer so they can get the storage location.

-victims posting pictures of their bikes or listing them for sale on social media. A lot of personal information can be found on your social media account!

HOW CRIMINALS TRAVEL WHEN STEALING THE BIKES:

-they use stolen vehicles to drive to the location, load up the bikes and get away from the area. If located, they will not stop for the police.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

-Always keep your shed, garage or trailer locked.

-Hide your own GPS tracker somewhere on the bike. Place the tracker where it will not be easily found- as the criminals often disassemble the bikes.

Even when your bike is stored, for extra security, chain ⛓️ the frame to something that can’t be moved.

This National Public Safety Telecommunications Week, the Wilbraham Police Association wants to take a moment to recognize the incredible men and women who answer the call — before we ever do.

Our dispatchers are the first voice someone hears in their most frightening moments. They stay calm so others can. They coordinate, communicate, and keep our officers safe — all without ever leaving the console. They are the backbone of public safety, and they do it with professionalism, compassion, and dedication every single shift.

To the dispatchers of Wilbraham — thank you. We are proud to stand beside you. You are not behind the scenes; you are right there with us, every step of the way.

Members of the Longmeadow Police Department, along with officers from several surrounding agencies, will be taking part in a charity hockey game before the Springfield Thunderbirds on April 11th at 4:00PM at the MassMutual Center.

This special event is being held to support the Hockey for Heroes Foundation, which supports first responders who have been seriously injured or lost in the line of duty. A portion of each ticket sold will go directly to this important cause.
