During World War II, Jews in Budapest were marched to the banks of the Danube River, forced to remove their shoes, and shot—falling into the water below. The fascist Arrow Cross militiamen, aligned with the Hungarian N***s, carried out these executions in 1944–45. Shoes were taken because they were valuable and could be resold; bodies were left to be swept away by the river.

Today, “Shoes on the Danube Bank” — 60 pairs of cast-iron shoes — stand in silent rows along the river’s edge. The sculptures mark the very place where men, women, and children were murdered, serving as a haunting memorial to the victims.

It is one of Budapest’s most powerful sites of remembrance, honoring lives stolen and ensuring the world never forgets.

The Wilbraham Public Library is also functioning in this way for the people of Wilbraham! Please support the Friends of the Library and all of their volunteers who continue to bring all of us such quality services!

On a typical day at Forbes Library, people can be found lying on the lawn, participating in book clubs and other programs, checking out books or perhaps a ukulele, and chatting with friends and strangers. It’s not the traditional image of a library...

Bless the Massachusetts Cultural Council and its executive director Michael J. Bobbitt and his team for their tireless support of arts and cultural institutions in our region and across the state. (We have invited Michael to the region four times - and he's said YES four times.)

Yesterday, Michael and team traveled to Northampton to meet with the audacious, inspirational, gutsy team who has united to re-open the legendary Iron Horse. Michael and MCC's expertise and enthusiasm for the power of arts and culture is transformative.

Deeply grateful to have their focus on western Mass.
