Exciting New Book on Wilbraham’s History Now Available

Authored by Wilbraham resident and president of The Atheneum Society of Wilbraham, David Bourcier’s latest book “Historic Tales of Wilbraham” brings Wilbraham's rich history to life, offering readers a window into the experiences of early settlers and the town's remarkable growth. With 31 short stories he discusses popular tales that include the tragic drowning of 6 young people in 9-Mile Pond in 1799, Reverend Noah Merrick’s love for his wife Abigail, immortalized in the poem “Parson’s Rose”, the heroic citizens who helped save the Federal Arsenal known as “Shay’s Rebellion” in 1787, rumors of Capt. Kidd’s buried gold treasure on slope Ridge Rd., the rattlesnake bite that killed a Wilbraham resident in 1791, the Wilbraham Mountain Climb, the electric railway, tragedies at Collins Paper Mill, and many more exciting lores.

David will hold a seminar and book signing at the Senior Center on May 15 at 1:30. Pre-registration is encouraged. Books cost $24.95 plus sales tax and are available at the book signing or may be pre-ordered at the Senior Center. All books must be prepaid by check. Thanks to the generosity of David, the Friends of Wilbraham Seniors will receive a commission on all books only sold by the Friends. Proceeds will support the Friends operations.

Bourcier has an intense love and passion for Wilbraham’s history that is bound to keep you on the edge of your seat. For more information contact Matt Villamaino at [email protected]
