Established in 2015, Baby Talk will use established curriculum to educate pregnant women on topics such as safe sleep, breastfeeding, smoking cessation, signs of preterm labor, nutrition, and physical activity during pregnancy. This community collaborative includes members from local health care systems, health department, medical school faculty and many non-profit organization, all with a shared

goal of improving birth outcomes for Sedgwick County. Baby Talk Cycles includes 6 classes:
Class 1: Prenatal Care
Class 2: Healthy Pregnancy
Class 3: Labor and what to expect
Class 4: Breastfeeding and Feeding Your Baby
Class 5: Infant Care
Class 6: After Baby is Born

🦴 Wait… babies have MORE bones than adults?! 🤯

It’s true! Babies are born with around 300 bones, while most adults have 206. As babies grow, some of those bones fuse together, which is why we actually end up with fewer bones as we get older!

Pretty amazing what those tiny little bodies are doing. 👶💚

🍼 Crying might mean “FEED ME!”- but baby was probably trying to tell you before the tears started! 👶

Crying is actually a late hunger cue! Before baby gets to that point, you may notice:

👄 Smacking or licking their lips
↔️ Turning their head and searching for the breast or bottle (rooting)
✋ Bringing their hands to their mouth
😋 Opening and closing their mouth
💤 Becoming more awake, active, or wiggly

Catching those early cues can make feeding a little easier for baby AND you!! 💙

It's not your imagination! A newborn's head makes up about ¼ of their total body length!!! Compare that to an adult, whose head is only about ⅛ of their total height! 🤯
