Baby Talk Prenatal, infant care, and after pregnancy classes provided at many locations in Wichita. Please visit www.babytalkict.com for more information.

Established in 2015, Baby Talk will use established curriculum to educate pregnant women on topics such as safe sleep, breastfeeding, smoking cessation, signs of preterm labor, nutrition, and physical activity during pregnancy. This community collaborative includes members from local health care systems, health department, medical school faculty and many non-profit organization, all with a shared goal of improving birth outcomes for Sedgwick County. Baby Talk Cycles includes 6 classes:
Class 1: Prenatal Care
Class 2: Healthy Pregnancy
Class 3: Labor and what to expect
Class 4: Breastfeeding and Feeding Your Baby
Class 5: Infant Care
Class 6: After Baby is Born

💦 Waking up wondering why your bed suddenly feels like a sauna?! 🥵😂

Postpartum night sweats are a real thing—and they can catch new moms completely off guard!

After birth, your hormones shift dramatically and your body also starts getting rid of some of the extra fluid it held onto during pregnancy. One way it does that? Sweating. A LOT. 😅

For many moms, postpartum night sweats are especially noticeable during the first few weeks and gradually improve as the body adjusts.

We spend so much time talking about what to expect during pregnancy and birth, but YOU deserve to know what to expect afterward, too. 💜

That’s why in Session 6: Healthy After Pregnancy, we talk about postpartum recovery, emotional health, warning signs to watch for, relationships, and some of those “Why did nobody tell me this?!” parts of life after baby.

Your newborn begins learning your scent very early, and after birth, your smell can become a familiar and comforting part of their brand-new world. 🥹

In fact, babies use their sense of smell to help recognize their caregiver, feel comforted, and even find their way toward the breast for feeding. 👶🍼

So while you’re busy getting to know every tiny detail about your new baby… they’re already getting to know you, too. 💕

💩 Yep… we’re talking about p**p today! 😂

Your baby’s first p**p is called meconium—and if you aren’t expecting it, it can be a bit of a surprise! 😳 It’s usually dark green to black, thick, and sticky and looks VERY different from the baby p**p that comes later.

As your baby begins feeding, their p**p will start changing in color, texture, and frequency. Those diaper changes can actually give you helpful clues about how feeding is going! 🍼👶

And because we believe in preparing you for the real parts of having a baby… YES, we teach about p**p! 😂💩

🦴 Wait… babies have MORE bones than adults?! 🤯

It’s true! Babies are born with around 300 bones, while most adults have 206. As babies grow, some of those bones fuse together, which is why we actually end up with fewer bones as we get older!

Pretty amazing what those tiny little bodies are doing. 👶💚

🍼 Crying might mean “FEED ME!”- but baby was probably trying to tell you before the tears started! 👶

Crying is actually a late hunger cue! Before baby gets to that point, you may notice:

👄 Smacking or licking their lips
↔️ Turning their head and searching for the breast or bottle (rooting)
✋ Bringing their hands to their mouth
😋 Opening and closing their mouth
💤 Becoming more awake, active, or wiggly

Catching those early cues can make feeding a little easier for baby AND you!! 💙
