The U.S. Association of Prides joins with the global Pride community in condemning the attack on Berlin’s Christopher Street Day Pride celebrations, and holding all of those affected in our hearts ─ most especially the person killed and those injured in this senseless act of violence.
Pride is a place for joy and hope, and violence against LGBTQIA+ people that disrupts that joy and extinguishes that hope is never acceptable.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. taught us, "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."The Pride movement in the United States and around the world exists to drive out darkness with light and hate with love.
Every Pride celebration is a beacon of hope where LGBTQIA+ people are welcomed, celebrated, and affirmed. Every day, we answer fear with hope and hatred with love. We will not allow violence to extinguish our light.
