We are excited to introduce the 2026 Weaver Awards, brought to you by The Neighboring Movement in partnership with Weave: The Social Fabric Project at the Aspen Institute.

You know the neighbor who keeps the community going. The one who organizes, connects, checks in, and shows up not because anyone asked, but because they care about the people around them. The people doing relationship-centered work.

Those are the people we call weavers: neighbors who build trust, connection, and belonging right where they live. And this year, we're finding them, celebrating them, and giving them the resources to keep going.

There are 10 awards of $2,500 and 10 awards of $5,000. That’s $75,000 total going directly into Wichita's neighborhoods.

Applications open June 1 and close August 31. Awardees will be announced on November 20.

Drop a ❤️ if you already have someone in mind, and share this post so we can find every weaver in Wichita.

Help us congratulate Kristopher! He was nominated by Hamilton Middle School's principal for the Good Apple Award and was selected alongside his neighbor, Karen, for their outstanding efforts to engage the school and students in the neighborhood work being done in SoCe - South Central Neighborhood. We are so proud of Kris and Karen for living out the values of being a good neighbor and including everyone at the table. Congratulations on this honor!

This past week, our board member Christopher Leonard launched his book "Leadership is Love." We were so honored to celebrate this achievement with him and hear the inspiration for his book. In this book, Dr. Leonard challenges us to lead in a way that considers the whole person. We can't wait to dive into this read!

Congratulations, Dr. Leonard!

Tomorrow morning, we're gathering to talk about something we believe deeply: that the people who make Wichita stronger are already here — in our neighborhoods, on our blocks, in our communities.

Join us for Coffee & Conversations and learn how you can help us find them, celebrate them, and connect them with support through the Weaver Awards.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, April 29, from 8:00 – 9:30 AM at Riverside Bohemian, 1144 Bitting St. This is a come-and-go event. We'd love to see you there.

What if the most powerful thing you could do for your neighborhood wasn't to fix it — but to really see it?

That's what our Faith-Based Animator JaVonna discovered when she walked Henry Street with slow, intentional eyes. She saw swept sidewalks and kids' bikes. Porches full of people watching out for each other. Three churches on one block, full of untapped potential. She saw neighbors already showing up — just waiting for a little intention to bring it all together.

"This block isn't broken — it's just carrying a lot. And there's still life here."

This is the abundance mindset in action. Not coming in to fix, but learning to see. Not just serving, but being with.

This is what neighboring looks like. Read her full story and be inspired to see your own block with fresh eyes. 👇

Walking my block, I saw what I’ve always known but don’t always stop to take in. What hit me right away was this: this block isn’t broken; it’s just carrying a lot. And there’s still life here.
