IBEW Local Union # 271 - Wichita, KS The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers local 271 represents inside wiremen, maintenance Broadway and is still located there.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 271 was chartered April 10,1914. In 1918 Shelley Electric and Southwestern Electric became the first two Electrical Contractors to sign contracts with Local Union 271. They are still signatory today, along with 30 other Electrical Contractors. In 1946 the Local Union bought the building located at 1040 S. In 1954 the Boeing maintenance electricians voted to be represented by IBEW Local # 271. When Boeing was sold to Spirit Aerospace, the maintenance electricians got a new employer but are still represented by IBEW Local # 271. As we celebrate our 100th year we now represent more than 900 construction electricians, maintenance electricians, and tele-data workers. While the electrical industry is rapidly changing, Local Union # 271 remains committed to its roots: organizing all workers in the electrical industry and raising the standard of living for all.

Happy Labor Day Sisters and Brothers! ⚡️✊

Today, we aren't just celebrating a day off or the end of summer—we are honoring the hardworking men and women who built this country. But do you know who actually brought Labor Day to the people?

It wasn't gifted to us by corporations or politicians. Labor Day was fought for and won by the labor movement.

Back in 1882, visionary union leaders like Peter J. McGuire and Matthew Maguire, alongside the Central Labor Union, organized the very first Labor Day parade in New York City. Thousands of workers marched unpaid that day to demand fair hours, safe working conditions, and respect for the working class. They fought for the 8-hour workday, the weekend, and the rights we often take for granted today.

Here at IBEW Local 271, we are incredibly proud to carry on that legacy. Every time we step onto a job site, negotiate a fair contract, and stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters, we keep the spirit of that very first Labor Day alive.

To all of our members, your families, and every union worker out there keeping our communities running: Enjoy your hard-earned day off. You've earned it!
