IAM District 70 Veterans Committee Supports Passageways, Ltd with $3,500 Donation

The IAM District 70 Veterans Committee met with Sean Garrison, Director of Operations for Passageways, today to deliver a $3,500 donation to support the organization’s mission of helping veterans in need.

Passageways works to help homeless veterans get off the streets and into stable housing. The organization provides veterans with the resources and support they need to move toward stability, independence, and a better future.

The impact of that work is significant. In 2025, Passageways assisted more than 244 veterans. The organization also broke a record this August by donating $113,000 worth of household furnishings and home goods to veterans establishing homes of their own.

During the check presentation, Garrison emphasized the purpose behind Passageways’ mission, saying, “This is a hand up, not a hand out.”

The IAM District 70 Veterans Committee is proud to support that mission. For veterans who have already given so much in service to our country, having a safe place to call home can be a critical step toward rebuilding their lives.

Today’s donation is another example of IAM members putting solidarity into action and continuing the commitment to serve those who served.

The IAM District 70 Veterans Committee thanks Sean Garrison and the entire Passageways team for the work they do every day for veterans in our community.

Boeing's largest white-collar union has rejected the company's four-year contract offer and authorized a strike.

Engineers and technicians represented by the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA) voted down tentative agreements their own negotiating teams had unanimously recommended. Engineers rejected the tentative agreement by 64.3 percent. Technicians rejected it by 71.9 percent.

Both groups also approved a separate strike authorization ballot if contracts are not ratified by Oct. 6, when the current contracts expire. The engineers' strike authorization passed with 87.9 percent support. Technicians voted 89.7 percent in favor.

Boeing labeled the tentative agreements its "Best and Final Offers." The agreements were reached after less than a month of negotiations. Historically, Boeing has made several offers before presenting a true final offer.

No strike is permitted while the current contracts remain in place. SPEEA leadership said it will survey members over the next several days before asking Boeing to return to the table, potentially as early as next week.

"Our Negotiation Team is prepared and willing to work with the company toward meaningful movement so that we can come to agreement on new contracts before Oct. 6," SPEEA said in a statement. "However, we also are prepared to call for a labor stoppage, based on the overwhelming support of our members for the strike authorization vote."

SPEEA added: "It became clear that SPEEA members deeply mistrust Boeing management."

Members cited wage increases capped at 3 percent, against Seattle-area inflation running at 4.5 percent year over year in June 2026.

For comparison, Boeing's touch-labor union IAM 751 rejected a similarly praised agreement in 2024 by 85 percent, struck at midnight on Sept. 12, and stayed out 53 days across three additional offers before ratifying Boeing's fourth.

A work stoppage by roughly 17,000 engineers and technicians would carry direct implications for the 737 MAX 10 and 777-9 certification programs, both already years behind schedule.
