IAM Member Spotlight: Brother Kurt Holtz
For nearly five decades, Brother Kurt Holtz has exemplified what it means to be a dedicated union member, leader, and advocate for working people. A proud member of the International Association of Machinists in good standing since February 1978, Brother Holtz has devoted much of his life to strengthening the labor movement and serving his fellow members.
Throughout his distinguished tenure with the IAM, Brother Holtz has held numerous leadership positions, earning the respect and admiration of members across the organization. His commitment to service began as a Shop Steward, where he worked directly with members to protect workplace rights, address concerns, and ensure the collective bargaining agreement was upheld.
Brother Holtz also served as Conductor Sentinel of IAM Local 733, helping maintain the traditions and order of the local while fostering member engagement and participation. His leadership abilities soon led him to the position of President of Local 733, where he guided the lodge through important challenges and opportunities while advocating for the needs of the membership.
Following the merger of Local 733 into Local 774, Brother Holtz continued his service as Vice President of Local 774. In this role, he remained committed to advancing the interests of working families and strengthening solidarity among members. His dedication and proven leadership eventually led him to serve as Vice President of IAM District 70, where he helped support locals throughout the district and worked to advance the mission of the IAM on a broader scale.
Over the course of his 48 years of membership, Brother Holtz has witnessed significant changes within the labor movement and the industries represented by the IAM. Through it all, he has remained steadfast in his belief that collective action, solidarity, and member involvement are the foundation of a strong union.
Brother Holtz's legacy is reflected not only in the offices he has held, but also in the countless members he has mentored, represented, and inspired throughout his years of service. His dedication serves as an example for current and future generations of IAM members who continue the fight for fairness, dignity, and respect in the workplace.
