Last Friday, Evan stopped by with several bags filled with personal hygiene items for the men in our programs. Through her initiative, EVs Essentials, Evan collects, assembles, and donates hygiene kits to local organizations in need.

Thank you, Evan, for your generosity and heart for the community. We are truly grateful and blessed that you thought of us and our program—your kindness makes a meaningful difference!

Last Thursday, we had the joy of celebrating James and his decision to follow Christ through baptism. And in a recent daily chapel, James was presented with his official baptism certificate!

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come!” — 2 Corinthians 5:17

It was a beautiful moment watching James rise from the water—leaving the old behind and stepping boldly into a new walk with Christ. We are so proud of him and excited to see all that God has in store for his journey ahead!

Join us in congratulating James! 🎉

What an incredible week at the Union Rescue Mission!

We had the honor of celebrating the men who completed the academic portion of our Solid Ground Program—a full 12 months of hard work, dedication, and life‑changing growth.

This week, three graduates shared powerful testimonies during chapel. Each story reflected where they were before Christ, how they encountered Him, and who they are today because of His transforming grace. Their honesty and courage were truly inspiring.

Men, we are so proud of your commitment to God’s Word and the tough—but life‑transforming—choices you’ve made to pursue a new path.

Proverbs 3:5–6 (HCSB)
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; think about Him in all your ways, and He will guide you on the right paths.”

As these men step into more independent living, this verse is a powerful reminder: keeping our eyes on Christ—not ourselves—is the surest way to stay on the path He has prepared.

Join us in celebrating these incredible men and praying for their continued journey forward!

We celebrate the life of Jack Coleman, a longtime chapel speaker at Union Rescue Mission, who is now with Jesus in eternity.

Jack (left in photo) faithfully served the men here, often visiting several times a week to encourage them and joyfully lead worship when music was needed. He especially made “Victory in Jesus” a favorite in our chapel—and now he is living that victory face to face with his Savior.

While we will miss Jack deeply, we rejoice knowing he is fully healed and home with the Lord.

Please keep Jack’s family and loved ones in your prayers as we thank God for a life lived in faithful service. 💙

If you’ve ever walked through the Mission, you’ve probably noticed the puzzle table that’s always in progress. That’s thanks to Dom—our resident puzzle maker! At almost any time of day, you can find him focused on his next masterpiece.

But that’s not all—Dom and Justin are also incredibly talented artists. Recently, they teamed up to create a Kansas City Chiefs–themed poster for our Finance Manager, Debi. If you ever need a puzzle put together, these are your guys!

1 Peter 4:10: “Each of you should use whatever gifts you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”

Dom and Justin do exactly that. They use their creativity to bless those around them and add warmth to the Union Rescue Mission.

If you come for a visit, be sure to look for the puzzle table in the common area—you might just catch a masterpiece in the making!

Do you know the muffin man?! Well … he may not be the muffin man, but Carl sure knows his way around a kitchen! In his spare time, Carl enjoys many different activities—and baking is ONE of them.

Colossians 3:23: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”

Carl lives this out daily. In everything he does, he gives his whole heart—and he does it for the Lord.

Keep an eye out for more highlights of the many things Carl has a hand in!

A few Friday's ago, our men enjoyed a delicious buffet lunch with tons of options to choose from. A huge shoutout to our amazing kitchen staff for preparing such a wonderful meal—they truly outdid themselves!

“Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap; they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!” — Luke 12:24

We are incredibly grateful for the resources we have to care for the men here. Days like this remind us of God’s provision and His faithful care for those He loves.

(Sniff, sniff) … Can you smell that?
Because we sure can here at the Union Rescue Mission!

A huge shoutout to Louis and our amazing kitchen team for whipping up homemade chicken pot pies for lunch this week.

Fresh, comforting, and made with love — they taste even better than they look! Grateful for the hands that make every meal here special.

Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

This verse reminds us who directs our focus and fuels our drive. When we keep our eyes on God, His plans for us are always greater than we can imagine.

We have been blessed by the Wichita Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated fraternity for many years. The men of Omega Psi Phi provide financial support and thousands of pairs of socks each Christmas season to support the precious men we serve at the Mission! You know how sometimes God brings very special relationships in your life, just when you need them? Well, God is moving through this group of Saints every time they visit!

Thank you for your visit on Valentines Day! May God continue to bless the men (and their families) of this wonderful, Christ focused, service fraternity. God is so good!

A little about Omega Psi Phi: They are the first international fraternal organization founded on the campus of a historically black college. On the evening of November 17, 1911, Omega Psi Phi was founded inside the Science Building (later renamed Thirkield Hall) at Howard University located in Washington, D.C.

Since June 2025, Faith Church Valley Center has been faithfully serving at a monthly Dine with Dignity event, specifically as an act of service by their team—and what a gift they have been to the Union Rescue Mission family.

This incredible team shows up right on time, every time, with kind words, loving service, and the kind of joyful hospitality that makes our guests and residents feel truly seen. Their table service is always thoughtful, always excellent, and always offered with hearts full of Christlike compassion.

Enjoy these photos and see their beautiful spirit in action—serving with smiles, creating a warm and welcoming dining space, and pouring love into every detail.

We are deeply grateful for our new Dine with Dignity volunteer team from !

“Serve one another humbly in love.” — Galatians 5:13

Last Friday, February 6th, their team came together to serve dinner with compassion, dignity, and excellence—making a meaningful impact on the men we serve at URM.

A special thank‑you to Mike and Mary for helping organize the evening, and to Pastor Kevin, who leads SouthLife, along with their wonderful crew of servant‑hearted volunteers who served during this event and for our amazing DWD lead volunteer, Deb W.! Your willingness to show Christ’s love through kindness, presence, and warm hospitality touched many lives.

“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” — Matthew 25:40

Thank you all for shining the light of Jesus through your service. We can’t wait to have you back again!

Reaching out to the “Unloved.”

In the late 1940’s, a woman known only as Miss Ledoux, working with merchants on East Douglas in Wichita, Kansas, saw a great need for a Mission to aid the homeless. She approached the Christian Business Men’s Committee in the summer of 1950, and the members, feeling a burden for the destitute men living on Wichita streets, agreed to establish a shelter.

The Union Rescue Mission is the extended arms of the various churches in the Wichita community, offering Christ’s Plan of Salvation to the Least, the Lost, and the Lonely.

The Union Rescue Mission is the largest emergency shelter and life-change center for men in the state of Kansas. The Mission’s 28,000-square foot facility in Wichita provides overnight housing and meals for homeless men, hosts a 12-month addiction recovery and Christian discipleship program called New Beginnings and distributes free food, diapers and infant formula to families and single mothers in need.

At the Union Rescue Mission, we firmly believe that need is met and lives are redeemed only through Christ-led partnerships. You can join with the Mission in its on-going battle to end homelessness, addiction and hunger by volunteering, becoming a mentor, serving meals, donating or any of a number of other ways. You can find a complete list of partnership opportunities here.
