💙 SATURDAY SERVICE SPOTLIGHT | REALITY U IN ACTION 💙
What does it really cost to be an adult? 🏠🚗🛒💳
Youth at the Wichita Children’s Home recently got a hands-on lesson through Reality U, an interactive financial literacy experience—and Soroptimist International of Wichita, KS was proud to help make it possible through grant funding!
During the 75-minute simulation, participants stepped into life as 26-year-olds. Each received a simulated income, family situation, and debt profile before making their way through real-world financial decisions involving:
🏠 Housing
🚗 Transportation
🛒 Everyday expenses
👶 Childcare
💳 Debt and financial obligations
💰 Budgeting and saving
Suddenly, choices have consequences. Budgets have limits. And the difference between a want and a need becomes very real!
Community volunteers helped guide participants through the experience, giving these young people an opportunity to practice financial decision-making in a safe and supportive environment.
💙 THIS is service in action.
The Wichita Children’s Home, serving our community since 1888, provides emergency, residential, and support services for children and young people who have experienced circumstances including abuse, neglect, homelessness, and human trafficking.
At Soroptimist International of Wichita, we believe education comes in many forms. Helping young people build practical skills, confidence, and knowledge today can help prepare them for greater independence tomorrow.
👏 A huge thank-you to the Wichita Children’s Home, Reality U, and the community volunteers who helped bring this experience to life!
