The inaugural Wichita 9-11 Memorial Stair Climb event will be held on Sept 12, 2015 at the Epic Center. Our stair climb will consist of 343 firefighters, from Kansas and surrounding states, climbing 110 stories for those who were lost on September 11, 2001. For our climb, registration will open to the first 343 firefighters who sign up; each firefighter will be assigned a name of one of those who

died in NYC. The 9-11 Memorial Stair Climbs are nationwide with the closest to our area being in Kansas City and Oklahoma City. For the past few years Kansas City, Oklahoma City, and Denver climbs have sold out, bringing the attention to Wichita. The Wichita stair climb committee consists of area firefighters who have climbed in other cities and are anxious to bring the memorial to Wichita.

We have had some question about civilians climbing that we’d like to address.

There is no age limit to climb but kids 12 and under must have an adult in the group.

Also that any children or civilians will count toward their total group number. Groups will be limited to 6-8 climbers to prevent congestion in the stairwells

The Wichita 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is proud to announce our return in 2026. Join us as we honor the courage, sacrifice, and legacy of those who answered the call on September 11.

📍 Location: Ruffin Building, downtown Wichita
📅 Main Climb: Sunday, September 13, 2026
📅 Additional Climb Opportunity: Saturday, September 12, 2026, for participants unable to attend on Sunday

This event is open to active, retired, career, and volunteer firefighters. We also proudly welcome civilians who wish to take on the challenge and climb in remembrance of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Registration opens June 1, 2026.

We are proud to congratulate Lieutenant Chad Sterrett of Truck Company 81, Derby Fire and Rescue, as the winner of our leather helmet raffle! Today, Lt. Sterrett received his Phoenix TL2 leather helmet, and we’re excited to see it in the hands of such a dedicated fire service professional.

A sincere thank you to Engine Company Leather for their outstanding support and for delivering the helmet with remarkable speed.
