Climbers,
First and foremost, thank you for signing up for this year’s climb, without you none of this would be possible. We would also like to thank our sponsors: Ruffin Epic Center, Fahenstock, Klein Construction, Aero-Mach, and IAFF Local 135 for their contributions as well.
We are honored that you have chosen to participate in the Wichita climb to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice 25 years ago. We have been working diligently to make sure everything is in order for a smooth and memorable experience on Sunday, September 13th. We have numerous raffle prizes from: Twister City Lids, HellFront Co, Bulldog Fire Tools, and Vivid Rugs. We are also very excited about the trip to New York that a firefighter and their guest will receive to see the 9/11 memorial.
Registration will open at 0630 (located in the parking garage)
Opening Ceremonies begin at 0800 (located in the north parking lot)
Climb begins at 0830
You will notice a few changes we have made this year that we want to make you aware of them before Sunday.
First, we will not be assigning you a FDNY member to climb for this year. Instead, during registration you will have the opportunity to chose any available member. This will be on a first come first pick basis, you will only be allowed to select a member for yourself and no one else.
Second, to accommodate a request by the host building, we will have a slightly different route this year. It will be much smoother and will eliminate climbers from having to climb up to 22 and then back down to 20. This should cut down on some of the congestion we experienced last year.
Third, Departments will climb together this year. Instead of splitting Departments up and having them climb at multiple different times we have decided to have each Department climb as a team. You will still be in groups of 5-8 members but you will all be climbing at the same time. Our hope is that this makes for memorable experience that Departments can share together.
Lastly, we will not be broadcasting the radio traffic from 9/11/01 through out the stairwell, instead you will find the link below if you wish to listen to it while you climb.
If you have any concerns or questions about these changes, please feel free to reach out.
For those who are on duty Sunday the 13th we will have the option for an alternate climb on Saturday the 12th at 0800. If you are wanting to participate in this alternate climb please contact John Hattrup directly at the email [email protected]
