IMPORTANT NOTICE TO OUR SUPPORTERS!

The Global Faith in Action (GFIA) Board of Directors met in March and unanimously passed a resolution to cease operations by the end of this calendar year. The ASAP HAITI program will continue though (see below). With Rev. Sam Muysken’s health, retirement of Board members, and other reasons it was deemed no longer viable to continue GFIA’s mission. Sam’s vision of “A World of Faith Living Together, Beyond Our Differences”, put into motion 14 years ago has touched scores of people and faith organizations in the Wichita area and beyond. Sam, the Board, generous donors, and many volunteers have worked faithfully to fulfill its goal to “find a way to transform our community by building relationships and respecting all people through truth and justice.” The world is a better place because of this vision and the efforts to fulfill it.

GFIA was also instrumental in serving the students and community of Lambert, Haiti; a project of mercy and justice Sam started over 30 years ago. To honor Sam, secure his legacy in this important work, and continue its work, the Board passed a second resolution allowing that mission to move to Sam’s home church in Wichita, West Heights United Methodist Church. It will be called Haiti Hope Foundation (HHF) and will operate as an independent project under the non-profit umbrella of West Heights. All funds will be kept separate from West Heights general funds and HHF’s operation will be monitored by a church committee providing oversight and accountability for the financial aspects of the Haiti Hope Foundation. David Glover, a dedicated volunteer who for the last 10 years has ensured all donations received were sent to Haiti and used as directed, will continue performing these duties. All existing GFIA operating funds will be transferred to HHF in honor of Sam.

Thank you for your past generous donations to support the students and families in Lambert, Haiti! We hope you will continue to support this mission through your generosity of tax-deductible donations. To ensure that all future donations continue to be received and sent to Haiti, we need to change how you make your gifts, as follows:

1. Checks made payable to GFIA and sent to the GFIA office at 1020 E English, Wichita, KS will be accepted through June 30, 2025. We recommend you begin making check donations to Haiti Hope Foundation and mailing them to:
Haiti Hope Foundation

Please like and follow the Haiti Hope Foundations page here https://www.facebook.com/share/14EBLVksTHB/?mibextid=wwXIfr

2. Donations made via PayPal through GFIA will move to our new online giving platform – Zeffy. If you currently give using PayPal, David Glover will be in contact with you. This platform allows you to pay via credit/debit card, Google Pay, Apple Pay, and others. It is secure and, most importantly, 100% of your donation goes to Haiti Hope Foundation!

For those of you who have donated in the past but not recently, we hope you will consider becoming a regular giver again. The students, teachers, and families of Lambert, Haiti continue to need your help, especially in this time of turmoil, violence, and inflation in Haiti!

Finally, we would like to honor Rev. Sam Muyskens and his 30+ years of serving the students, teachers, families, and community of Lambert, Haiti. Through his tireless, selfless, and faithful work and many travels to Haiti, Sam has helped thousands of Haitian students receive a K-12 education and become knowledgeable, productive people. To honor Sam, please consider making a special one-time donation to Haiti Hope Foundation via check (as shown previously) or online at https://tinyurl.com/hhf-donate. Let’s show Sam how much we value and respect all that he has done for the people of Haiti!

Thank you for standing alongside GFIA and its mission all these years! If you have any questions about this letter, please contact David Glover at 316-207-2190 or [email protected].

With gratitude,

Global Faith in Action Board of Directors

Did you ever wonder what people eat in Haiti? Soup Joumou is one of the most popular dishes. Here is the story behind this Haitian entrée entree

On January 1, we celebrate a new year and Haiti’s independence. Haiti was the first and only country to have successfully revolted against slavery. Our pride in our history is celebrated each year with a traditional pumpkin soup known as Soup Joumou.

We want to wish everyone a Happy New Year. Thank you for making the lives of our community in Haiti better. We are excited about another year of them growing and becoming more self-sustainable
