The Delano Chamber Orchestra will open its 2024-25 season on Sunday, September 29 @ 4:00pm. The concert will take place at The District Church, 304 S. Seneca, Wichita, KS. Our program will feature some of the most beautifully calm music from the orchestral repertoire: Largo from Xerxes by Handel, Meditation from Thais by Massenet (Helen Nicoli, violin), Quiet City by Copland (Mikhail Yeremin, trumpet; Erin Flory Robertson, English horn), and the third movement from Beethoven's immortal Ninth Symphony. Admission to the concert is free but if you can make a donation to help sustain us, it would be greatly appreciated. A reception will follow. What a thrill to work with these graduating seniors as they performed as soloists with the Delano Chamber Orchestra yesterday afternoon! They played for a standing room only audience; each of them showed a high level of artistry and composure as they assumed the risks of leadership. Congratulations to all!

“The Passion of Angels for Two Harps and Orchestra” is a unique and powerful piece that the Delano Chamber Orchestra would like to perform in its upcoming season, however, the parts are not available for purchase; they must be rented from the publisher. We don’t have a budget for rentals so, rather than just give up on the idea, I thought I would put this fundraiser out there to see if anyone could be an “angel” and help us out. Thanks for your kind consideration of this project! Go to my personal page to see the fundraiser as well as a recording of the piece.

Had a wonderful experience last Sunday, February 5, with the Delano Chamber Orchestra! Somehow I didn’t get a photo with our piano soloist, J. David Taylor, who performed brilliantly on the first movement of Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1, but I was able to get one with our composer and former DCO violist Joseph Lee Graham. We had the honor of presenting the world premiere of his Symphony No. 9 in C Major, a masterful work composed in the symphonic language of 1790. Bravo, Joe! And, thank you to all of the DCO musicians as well as our receptive audience!
