PURPLE REIGN - Gene Taylor, K-State Athletic Director, was our speaker today, and his appearance could not have been more timely. He spoke about the transfer portal, NIL, K-State sports, and what he could say about Coach Tang. Purple was the color of the day.

FOSTERING YOUNG READERS - Each year, 1st graders at Lawrence and Benton schools receive custom bookshelves, sheets of decals, and several books they can call their own. The bookshelves are built by club members using a design by charter member Bob Goebel. The highlight is the day the club members deliver the bookshelves and see the joy on the students' faces. The exact start date of this project is unknown, so 1989 is a safe bet, as the club began in 1987. Some kids report that their parents still have the bookshelves at home. One of the club's oldest community projects

HOLIDAY TRADITION - In the 1980s, club member the late Dr David Weber, who was on the faculty of the Friends University music department, helped establish an event to kick off the holiday season. A seasonal meal is capped off with a musical performance by the Friends University Concert Choir. Today's choir was directed by Angela Perez, who recounted the time, 20 years ago, she sang for us as a university student. The luncheon concludes with the club president leading the choir in singing Happy Birthday to December celebrants.

Thanks to Vern Klassen, Project Chair, along with John Mosley & Bob Broeckelman for the prep work before the assembly. We are honored to share that longtime Rotarian Robert (Bob) Goebel has taken a heartfelt step to support our mission well into the future. Bob has created the Robert L. & Rosalie Goebel West Wichita Rotary Club Fund through the Wichita Foundation — a designated fund that will provide consistent support to our Rotary Club of West Wichita for the next 25 years.

Bob’s connection with Rotary is deep and enduring:

He has been involved in our work for nearly 4 decades, dating back to our first food drive in 1987.

He hopes this fund will “ease the burden of raising the funds to do these programs,” allowing us to focus more on service and impact.

When the 25-year term completes, the remaining resources of the fund will go into Wichita’s “Fund for Wichita,” ensuring that the value of Bob’s generosity continues to serve the community broadly.

This gesture is more than financial support — it’s a statement of faith in our collective mission. It reminds us all that service and community-building are long journeys, and that thoughtful planning now can empower Rotary’s work years from today.

Thank you, Bob and Rosalie, for your dedication and vision. May your gift inspire others to consider how they, too, can leave a lasting impact in Wichita.

What a great evening celebrating our dear friend, Michael Phipps and the scholarship bearing his name at the Redler Institute of Culinary Arts. Michael dedicated his life to creating unforgettable experiences, nurturing talent, and welcoming all to the table. This scholarship ensures that his legacy of generosity will continue to empower the next generation of culinary and hospitality leaders in our community.
