The Department of Endocrinology at Children’s Mercy Hospital & Clinics is looking for participants in the following research studies:

1: Relatives of people with Type 1 diabetes have a 10-15 times greater risk for the disease than those with no family history. The Pathway to Prevention study provides no cost screening for the presence of diabetes-related auto-antibodies that may determine an increased risk of developing Type 1 diabetes. Relatives – parents, siblings and children ages 1-45 and half-siblin...gs, cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews ages 1-20 are eligible to be screened.
2: We are excited about conducting the Oral Insulin trial for those found to have positive insulin auto-antibodies. Results from a recent study suggest that oral insulin might delay or even prevent Type 1 diabetes in some people at risk (Skyler, JS et al.Diabetes Care 2005; 28:1068-76). Other studies are on the horizon!!

To be screened for the trial, CMH will be in Wichita on Thursday May 30 from 3pm-7pm and Friday May 31 from 10am-3pm.

Please call to schedule an appointment to avoid prolonged waiting periods!!

For more information and eligibility requirements, contact Renee Duprau, RN, MSN, CPN at (816)960-8942 or (888)563-3070 or [email protected].
