We had a fabulous, jam-packed meeting this month! We enjoyed a wonderful presentation by KSDAR’s America250 head cheerleader Patti Unruh. She really has us motivated to get the party started!🎉🎉🎉

Next we all were able to join in and honor veteran David Hayden, husband of our member Marla Hayden, with a moving Quilt of Valor presentation. He was presented with a beautiful quilt pieced by member Karen Warner and the binding was attached by Dana Jerovic. Denise Fleming assists in Quilt of Valor presentations, so the entire presentation felt personal. I think David was very touched by the ceremony.

We also slipped in a Laugh ‘n Learn protocol quiz in preparation for our upcoming State Conference and a visit from the State Regent.

Today members from the Randolph Loving, Mary Draper, Little Arkansas and Newton chapters enjoyed a fabulous tour of the McConnell AFB in Wichita! We were given an excellent overview of the focus and missions of the base, we got a close up look at one of the latest fueling planes, and watched a dramatic demonstration of one of the trained dogs. Many thanks to Cathy Furnish for organizing the visit for us! It was a great experience on a beautiful Kansas day!

This month the Randolph Loving Chapter shared a project with our members who don’t live close enough to attend meetings. We mailed out flyers and a red bracelet to each one inviting them to join in as we wear red and Remember Everyone Deployed. We’ve had some great notes of thanks for including them!

Our chapter had a wonderful program honoring our Good Citizen Awards recipients! It’s always so inspiring to hear from these amazing young people who have already accomplished so much! A fun thing occurred later when our member Peggy Church pulled out the Good Citizen certificate that she received back in the 1960’s! Peggy then offered a great protocol game to prepare us for the upcoming state regent’s visit!

The Randolph Loving Chapter had a great meeting on Friday! We learned about a wonderful program for volunteers called ‘RSVP’ organized with the Central Plains Area Agency on Aging. They match volunteers aged 55+ with local opportunities. And Ellen Verlanic inspired us all to wear red for Remember Everyone Deployed Friday. Don’t we look great?

Today seven Randolph Loving quilters met to work on DAR projects! Just like many accomplished Daughters across the land, they sewed up a storm AND laughed, joked and solved world problems. Thank goodness for the DAR!

The Randolph Loving Chapter celebrated the conclusion of a fabulous year at our annual Merry Member Celebration! We tooted our horns and recognized the many wonderful achievements of our members. We also got to welcome our newest member Deanna Aspedon! What a wonderful group of talented people! Plus we signed 250 holiday cards that are winging their way to service members aboard the USS Iwo Jima! A great day!

RIDING FOR ROSA

Today the Randolph Loving and Mary Draper Chapters hosted a special event commemorating Rosa Parks’ historic bus ride 70 years ago! We gathered at the Wichita Transit Center and rode city bus #17 through the Riverside part of town.

We then gathered at the restaurant Homegrown for a yummy brunch before we trundled off to The Kansas African American Museum for an excellent program and tour. This gem of a museum is located in the old Calvary Baptist Church which was built 117 years ago. We enjoyed seeing the interesting collection of art, artifacts, amazing masks and ceremonial headdresses from Africa as well as learning the stories of talented, imaginative and persistent Kansan African Americans who have contributed to making our state vibrant and strong.

We were so happy to be joined by members of Flores Del Sol, Newton and Marth Loving Ferrell chapters!

It was humbling to reflect on how easy it can seem for some folks to navigate through life, and also be present to the needs of our nearby neighbors. We owe a debt of gratitude and awareness for the people who went before us, making our way easier.
