Community family, we need your help today.

It’s Friday, and we know there is a lot going on right now. We are all pulling from the same pockets, but we need to expand and extend our collective network to save lives.

We are urgently trying to raise $1,000 to fund our next order of drug testing strips.

Due to changing political climates, we recently lost a vital grant that funded our testing strips. That is why we are turning to you today. We are a community-rooted organization, and the vast majority of our life-saving work is powered entirely by everyday donors like you.

The farm season has officially come to an end, making this week our final For The People Healthy Corner Store pop-up event of the year at Safe Streets Wichita Inc., in partnership with Common Ground Producers and Growers.

The order form is officially open today and will remain active until our available capacity is reached. Please place your final pre-orders as early as possible so our team can plan according to inventory and volunteer availability.

*Please note that we are anticipating rain on Thursday, which may cause some operational or delivery delays. If any scheduling timelines change due to the weather, we will reach out directly to everyone who has placed a pre-order.

Delivery availability depends entirely on volunteer support and cannot be guaranteed, but pickup remains available for all orders on Thursday.

This Indigenous Peoples' Day, we lift up the deep, intertwined roots of collective survival, land stewardship, and community care. True harm reduction and mutual aid are not modern trends, they are sacred, traditional practices of looking out for one another passed down through generations.

We gather on the traditional lands of the Kiowa, Kaw, Osage, Wichita, Ute, and Kickapoo peoples, past and present. This is exactly where our office sits at 1200 E. Waterman St., and we honor with gratitude the land itself and the indigenous people who have stewarded it throughout generations.

True community health cannot exist without land back, environmental justice, and honoring the sovereignty of the original caretakers of this soil.

We’re honored our office serves as a shared incubator for community-based infrastructure, blending cultural wisdom, ancestral resilience, and modern public health resources to protect all our relatives/comrades/community through these programs:

- Vortex Vessel(s): Join open poetry workshops and community storytelling sessions every Sunday at 6:00 PM at our physical space.

- Liberation Literature Book Study: Engage in collective learning, critical discussion, and the exploration of ideas centered on liberation, social justice, and community change every Monday.

- Montáge Models: Help build safe, inclusive spaces for local youth and young adults through creative consulting, fashion, clothing swaps, and photography.

- For The People (FTP) Healthy Corner: Our sliding-scale food co-op market operated in collaboration with Common Ground Producers and Growers.

- People’s Free Food Program: Join direct-action food sovereignty efforts by volunteering to cook and deliver warm meals, fresh produce, and emergency survival kits directly to unhoused communities.

- Naloxone Training & Distribution: Attend our free monthly overdose response courses covering opioid history, fentanyl myth-busting, and anti-stigma practices.

- Care in the Chair: If you are a barber, stylist, or cosmetology professional, get trained on naloxone and overdose prevention.

- Meadowlark Care Collective: Mutual aid networks organizing direct support for unhoused neighbors.

- ICT Tenants Union: Build collective power against predatory housing systems, host pro-bono tenant clinics.

- ICT Alerta: Join response networks defending immigrant and Latino families from separation.

- Wellness Wednesdays: Facilitate or join open-door, confidential mental health support circles to process stress, trauma, or substance-related harms.

Safe Streets Wichita will be out at RiverFlix this Friday night (Oct. 9) at the Amphitheater! Stop by to say hey and to grab some great local resources, learn about what we do, and say hello before the show.

This week's movie is Wicked For Good. Word on the streets is to come early to explore the museum and the Adventure Playscape, grab some dinner from the local food trucks, and hang out with us!

Event Details:
- Seating and food trucks open at 6:00 PM
- Movie starts at dusk (approximately 7:00 PM)
- Admission is FREE!

Important Info from Exploration Place:
- Bring a blanket to sit on (no chairs on the turf)
- No strollers or wagons (parking is available)
