We have finally scheduled our cleanup for Delano! We need volunteers. Please come to the meeting for more information. We will release the date then. We are also required to hand out flyers with the information. We need several volunteers to help. The more volunteers, the less each one has to do! Update: The Metropolitan Area Planning Commission approved both zoning requests with a vote of 10-2.

There were several speakers as well as letters submitted by residents. The agent for Oxford Vista stated people just don’t like change. He also said the concerns for increased traffic was irrelevant and therefore they have not asked the city for a traffic study nor do they intend to. With the changes they can build several large apartment buildings like the new one at Douglas and Exposition.

At our meeting Monday night, we discussed the Masonic Home, the owners desire to demolish the building and the requests for rezoning. Here is the latest information. At the District Advisory Board Meeting Monday night, the first zoning vote for commercial was deferred, and the multifamily on Univerity between Seneca and Martinson was recommended denied.
The planning commission meeting will be on Thursday October 8th at 1:30 in the Ronald Regan Building. If you are unable to attend, please email and I will be happy to bring them.
This will be your last chance to have a voice on the zoning changes requested by the developers for the properties on University between Seneca and Martinson ( they requested Multi family B- which could allow up to 150 residents- this would only be possible with a 3-5 storied high density apartment complex!
The commercial proposal would change the footprint of our area from Seneca to Friends, Maple to Kellogg. It was pointed out how across the street businesses have failed in that area and we are left with empty or less desirable businesses. That very well could happen on the Westside of the street as well.
Right now there are no real plans.
They did not do any studies on traffic issues, said there was a possibility of no left turns at University and Seneca, which would cause traffic to take short cuts through our neighborhood streets.
PLEASE try to make this next meeting in person.

The boil water advisory for the City of Wichita has been rescinded.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has rescinded the boil water advisory for the City of Wichita after all 195 water test results came back clear and free of contamination. Wichita water has remained safe for normal use and consumption.

The advisory was issued early Wednesday morning after a loss of pressure in the water system. The pressure loss followed a power outage caused by the failure of generators that were being used during Tuesday night’s storm.

Water samples were collected from testing locations throughout the system Wednesday. Following the required 24-hour incubation period for bacteria testing, City staff and KDHE reviewed the results Thursday afternoon. Testing found no evidence of bacteria, and KDHE determined that other conditions that could have placed the system at risk of contamination had been resolved.

Based on the results, KDHE confirmed there was no presence of bacteria in the City’s system and released a notice stating that the boil water advisory had been rescinded.

Wholesale water utilities that use Wichita water should contact their municipality for guidance on their boil advisories.

The City collected samples near the point of connection for wholesale customers, but per regulation, they are responsible to do the same for their respective systems.

Customers in those areas should continue following their local boil water guidance until notified otherwise.

The City is also continuing to investigate the cause of the generator power failure and will review procedures intended to prevent a similar multi-failure power outage in the future.
