Public Service Announcement: School Zone Safety Alert

As the new school year begins this week, we strongly urge all drivers to exercise heightened caution on the roads. Please remain observant for students who are walking, riding bicycles, and using scooters in the surrounding areas.

Unfortunately, a traffic incident occurred today involving a student leaving campus. This serves as a critical reminder of the importance of road safety during peak commute times.

To help protect our community, we ask all drivers to: Minimize distractions and remain vigilant behind the wheel. Strictly observe speed limits within all school zones. Yield to pedestrians at crosswalks and intersections.

Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to keeping our students safe as school resumes.

Happy Birthday Wichita! Officially incorporated on July 21, 1870. Designed in 1937 by local artist Cecil McAlister, the iconic Wichita, Kansas flag features a vibrant, off-center blue sun with a Native American hogan symbol for a "permanent home" in its center. Six alternating red and white rays extend outward, representing the path of freedom to come and go as one pleases.

Since we discussed the hiring of a new Fire Chief at our DRA meeting Monday night, I wanted to share this news.

Please join us in congratulating and welcoming Michael Mire to Wichita and the WFD family!

Following a national search, Wichita City Manager Dennis Marstall has appointed Michael Mire to serve as Wichita Fire Department’s (WFD) 15th Chief. Mire is a nearly 30-year veteran of the Houston, Texas Fire Department, currently serving as an Assistant Fire Chief and oversees the Emergency Response Command.

Join us for Second Chance Thursday on Thursday, July 16th 2026, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Carl Brewer Community Center at 1329 E. 16th.

This event is designed to help individuals take care of:
• City of Wichita traffic warrants
• Notice to Appear warrants
• Environmental warrants

Please note: We are not able to assist with Sedgwick County warrants or any other criminal warrants.

Additional services will be available on site:
• City of Wichita Municipal Court staff can assist with payment plans and answer court-related questions.
• DMV representatives can provide information on suspended licenses (not revoked licenses).
