FYI, this is concerning the shooting that occurred in our neighborhood.
Let's be intentional about our relationships within our community and make SW Wichita a nicer place to call home

Wichita is grieving another life taken by gunfire.
Jason Todd, 42, of Wichita, was shot multiple times outside a laundromat in southwest Wichita. Officers responded to the 900 block of South Seneca, gave life-saving aid, and Jason was taken to the hospital, where he later died. Police said they believe the shooting was targeted and not random.
And what makes this story even heavier is the history wrapped around it.
This pain appears to trace back to October 3, 2022, when 25-year-old Trebeon Golston was stabbed outside a bar in Old Town Wichita and died at the hospital. The next day, Jason Dwayne Todd was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder. Nearly a year later, on September 22, 2023, a jury found him not guilty of second-degree murder.
But the hurt did not end there.
Nearly four years after Trebeonβs death, Jason Todd was killed. Police say 26-year-old Ronntreal Golston, described as Trebeonβs relative, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, criminal discharge of a firearm, and criminal possession of a weapon in Jasonβs death.
One death started a wound. Another death deepened it.
Brandon Politeβs words in the image hit hard:
βItβs crazy how hard it is in Wichita for a black man.β
That sentence carries pain. It carries exhaustion. It carries the weight of families burying sons, brothers, fathers, cousins, and friends while the community is left asking how many more times this has to happen.
The Bible teaches us that life belongs to God. It teaches that hatred, revenge, and violence do not heal wounds β they multiply them. It teaches that anger left unchecked can destroy families, communities, and futures. It teaches that vengeance is not ours to carry, because when people take justice into their own hands, the graveyard gets fuller and the pain gets passed down.
This is not just a crime story. This is a warning.
A feud does not bring anybody back. A bullet does not close a wound. Revenge does not create justice. It only creates another mother crying, another family broken, another court date, another funeral, another name people have to say through tears.
Pray for Jason Toddβs family. Pray for Trebeon Golstonβs family. Pray for Wichita. Pray for every young man carrying pain so heavy that he thinks violence is the only way to answer it.
Because at some point, somebody has to be strong enough to stop the cycle.
