πWe had a lot of concerned voices last year surrounding our clean ups. We took that message to heart addressing the concerns and to promote transparency this is the 2026 SNEK Farm rundown! π¦ππ
Last night, we met with a small group of to discuss SNEK and some goals for this year. Aaron suggested that he new a few youth groups that may be interested in coordinating with us for clean ups. πΉ James volunteered to make strides to contact the Bubble Barrier Institute.π£ (Those that are curious what the BBI is, be sure to send us a message.π ) CJ is also in the first steps to make contact with WSU to see what kind of engineers that we find that are passionate about river remediation. π
SNEK met with the Parks Department today. Last year we set up for 3 Quarterly meetings a year as we historically operate seasonally. Todays was the first of the year.
You all remember that crazy windstorm last year? We requested that the city help us remove the trees that were knocked into the river creating a terrible logjam in the tunnel. We were able to give them and the rest of the department our gratitude for tackling that mess.
We also shared our river clean up schedule with the Parks Department. They are aware of when we are going to be out there and have offered to extend help as needed. One way they helped last year is providing a place to place the trash, they are continuing it this year as well. This helps us out tremendously. Pulling yucky wet stuff out of the wet river was a big ask to put in domestic bins. Thank goodness that is a thing of the past.
It is our hope now that more folks will join us. Helping us to spread this stewardship a little further down or even up river. We listened to your concerns, now we just wish others to join our rag tag group of river rats in solidarity to care for our waterways and their banks.
We are hosting clean ups monthly 9 am -12 pm, 2nd Saturdays, beginning in March - July. Pool party will be held in August to say thanks to our volunteers.
