If your classroom feels a little extra heavy this month, take a deep breath: You’re not failing, and you’re definitely not alone.

In September, everyone is on their best behavior. But October? That’s when the REAL classroom shows up. Your students start testing those boundaries, routines might start slipping, and fatigue sets in. It’s easy to feel like the wheels are coming off or that you failed to set the tone.

But a classroom of kids only “pretending” can’t grow. The friction that you (and a million other teachers) are feeling means that your students finally feel comfortable enough to show you where they need your help and guidance.

Integrity is one our 8 Foundational Principles and it’s easy to see why! A classroom that has Integrity built into its culture is primed for success.

Especially in October, when routines are tested and the novelty wears off, students (and even adults!) are tempted to take the “fast and easy” road. But real growth lives on the other side of choosing courage over comfort - like Brene Brown says.

As Empowered educators, you know that typical “lectures” on Integrity never work. You all model it, create space for it, and celebrate it when your students make the hard choices!

Here’s a challenge! This week in your classrooms, try and highlight the moments of Integrity. Instead of only praising academic wins, try and catch a student being honest when it’s not easy or doing the right thing when it’s inconvenient.
