Kayla Lowmiller 4 MKSOT 2022 Help champion my social platform: The Power in "Paw"sitivity: Animal Adoption Advocacy Makes a Difference! https://24petconnect.com

Follow me as I make my way towards Miss Kansas' Outstanding Teen 2022! Did you know that according to the ASPCA that approximately 40% of dog owners and 46% of cat owners learned about their pet through word of mouth? Imagine the multitude of adoptions that could be made possible if we increased awareness and provided shelters with powerful connections to adoptees! Donate towards my cause at: http

I am so proud! The class of 2022 is a HUGE success thanks to YOU! Thank you Kansas for demonstrating how big our hearts are!

This past weekend the Miss Kansas’ Outstanding Teen program received 1st runner up in the nation for state organization fundraising. Collectively the class of 2022 teen candidates raised $12,670 through spotfund fundraising for scholarships.

We are proud of our class of 2022 teens and the team of volunteers who helped make this possible. Thank you to everyone who donated to spotfund fundraising pages this past year as you supported your candidate. As a reward the Miss America Organization has given the MKSOTeen program additional scholarship funds that will be used to continue providing scholarships to MKSOTEEN candidates.

We’re going to very honest – things are really hard right now and we are at a breaking point.

Both Kansas Humane Society (KHS) and the Wichita Animal Shelter (WAS) are at ABSOLUTE MAX CAPACITY – and more animals arrive each day. Intake is at record highs for both shelters and adoptions and pets reclaimed by their owner are at record lows. The flow of animals doesn’t stop, but no one is coming to save them. This is an absolute crisis situation, and we need our community to rally together for the next several months to get through it. We desperately need your help to save lives so very difficult decisions don’t have to be made due to lack of kennel space. Innocent animal lives are at severe risk.

ADOPTION FEES FOR ALL ADULT DOGS AT KHS HAVE BEEN REDUCED. Most are $49 and below. This includes spay/neuter, microchip and age appropriate vaccinations. Please don’t wait - stop by KHS today to adopt! All adult dog adoption fees will be reduced to $25 this Saturday (6/18/22).

If you can’t adopt, please consider fostering a dog in your home while they are available for adoption. Fostering for KHS is free – we provide the food, supplies and any needed medical care – you provide a safe, temporary home. Contact our foster staff with any questions or sign up to foster here: https://kshumane.org/how-to-help/foster.html

With adoption fees so low, KHS also needs donations to help us cover the cost of care so we can continue to provide for the needs of homeless pets in our community. To make a donation, please visit kshumane.org/give.

Today I received a kind response from the White House congratulating me on my efforts for helping with the current crisis our nation's environment is facing with underfunded/overcrowded animal shelters and the financial needs towards spaying/neutering to reduce pet overpopulation. This issue is so near and dear to my heart. Regardless of politics, its nice to be heard and speak to the president on this important issue. The Kansas Humane Society is still at capacity currently and still in dire need of your support. Whether that be through volunteering, sharing information, sharing a KHS post on social media, donating (both financially or tangibly), and adopting animals in need. You could be the missing link that makes a change for the better. Help your local animal shelter today be the power in "Paw"sitivity.

Thank you Kansas!! Thank also to you, Bill Rea for the beautiful photos! It has been an honor to run as a candidate for Miss Kansas Outstanding Teen. I was incredibly humbled to take home the award for onstage question. Though I didn't win the crown, I am still proudly the teen ambassador for the Kansas Humane Society. I hope you'll all stay tuned to my page for many upcoming events I will be a part of this next upcoming year as I continue to make a powerfully "paw"sitive difference in my local community!

I felt calm and ready during the interview yesterday. I am ready to serve as Miss Kansas Outstanding teen and make a "paw"sitive difference in Kansas and the nation. Today, is showtime! I've finally arrived in Pratt, Kansas!! This morning, I reunited with all of my MKSOT2022 sisters for the MKSOT opening red carpet ceremony. We exchanged presents, hugs, and a few selfies along the way. I have been looking forward to this day for a long time, and it's finally come! My sisters Niomi, Riley, and Tiana have placed in the top three for the teens in action show, which will be held this evening. It's a special event held by separate judges from the final competition and a big deal for scholarship dollars for the girls. I can't wait to cheer as loudly as I possibly can for each of my sisters. I am incredibly proud of them and excited to hear what they've been doing to impact their community. The fun doesn't end there! Tomorrow my sunflower princess Emily will arrive and I will get to interview for the job of a lifetime. I cannot wait. I'm loving every second. As I look back on the first MKSOT workshop, I've come such a long way. I've gained 14 new best friends and dozens of inspiring mentors and encouragers. I've gained skills in resume building, public speaking, and leadership. I've learned how many people care about me and genuinely care about my social impact. I've learned just how powerful it can be to spread positivity to everyone you meet and the power behind a servant's heart. I can't wait to see where my next chapter will lead to next! Follow me as I share my journey this weekend!

Another unique aspect of my talent for the Miss Kansas Outstanding Teen Competition is that it will be my first time singing a solo in front of a live audience. Apart from singing in a children's choir, I've never performed solo on stage. I enjoy singing at home and have been waiting for an opportunity like this to share my passion for singing with the rest of the world. I've been practicing hard weekly with Garten's and building my courage for singing on stage. The Song, "Say Something" has a powerful meaning behind it both for my platform AND for just myself personally. It is an emotional and moving song. As the lyric's mention, "I'll be the one if you want me to." I hope you will want me to be the one to say something and speak up as a shelter animal advocate and also as Miss Kansas Outstanding Teen 2022. I cannot wait to perform!
Thank you again to Garten's Music for helping me prepare for my shining moment.
