We were honored to welcome a Galveston softball standout to throw out our ceremonial first pitch at the Area 5 14u State Tournament this past weekend.

Britaney Shaw grew up playing youth softball through the Galveston Lassie League before continuing her career at Ball High School, where she earned All-District and All-County honors and was named Offensive Player of the Year. She also competed on the schools volleyball and track and field teams. In her senior year, she set the school record for the longest shotput.

She went on to play Division I softball at the University of Houston, where she made an impact as an infielder for the Cougars. She also was a force at the plate having multiple five-plus RBI games and hitting a walk-off grand slam against Boise State.

Evelyn T. from Buna Texas Smoke was the catcher.

That's a wrap on our USA Softball of Texas Area 5 14u State Tournament. 🙌

Thank you to all of the teams, coaches, families, volunteers, umpires, and fans who helped make this weekend a success. Whether you were coaching, cheering, keeping score, running between fields, hunting down missing water bottles, or pretending tournament snacks count as a balanced meal — we appreciate you.

Special thank you to Galveston Lassie League and Galveston Parks and Recreation for providing the facilities, keeping everyone fed and maintaining the complex all weekend.
