Another Veteran sleeping safe tonight! This is the very first day of his journey, but for now he has a soft bed, a shower, and air conditioning (he's thankful to be away from the mosquitoes!). Monday morning we'll start his care plan and get him on the road to being independent again.

It's Friday!!! We all survived another week! Just a reminder that Base Camp Lindsey will be busy this weekend and we would love to have you come join us. Tomorrow morning at 8am we will have a work day and will start raising the wall between the dining room and kitchen. On Sunday, we will have a come and go anniversary party at the building from 2pm-4pm. Come out and join us for some cake and help us celebrate 10 years of serving the homeless veterans in our community. We hope to see everyone this weekend!

Girl power got it done today!! Just us two females but we finished the game room wall and closed off the extra doorway. We even got the mowing done! Next work day will be June 20 at 8am, we'll be working on the cased opening for the kitchen. Come out and join the fun!

June is PTS(D) Awareness Month.

While post-traumatic stress does not solely affect veterans, veterans are statistically more likely than the general public to suffer the effects of PTS(D), with a documented 6% of male veterans and 13% of female veterans experiencing it in their lifetimes (though actual numbers may be substantially higher, as many of those who struggle with post-traumatic stress do not seek diagnosis or treatment). The number of veterans diagnosed with PTS(D) is higher among those who've served in recent conflicts (for example, up to 29% of Iraqi Freedom veterans) than those who served nearly a century ago (3% of WWII and Korean War veterans) but it is important to remember that what we now know as PTS(D) was known by a number of other names in the past: "Shell Shock," "Battle Fatigue," "Soldier's Heart," "Combat Stress Reaction" and even the misleading "Nostalgia."

“Asking for support is not waving a white flag, it is a tactical decision to stay in the fight for your family, your future and your life,” said VFW National Commander Carol Whitmore.

Come celebrate with us! Sunday, June 21, 2026 is the 10th anniversary of the creation of Base Camp Lindsey and you are invited to join us for a come and go celebration from 2-4pm. The years have flown by so fast and we want to celebrate the progress that has been made as well as keeping our mission front and center in the community. We are excited to share upcoming important dates and updates from BCL. Tomorrow, May 16 is a scheduled work day from 9am until 12pm. We will be continuing work on the framing in the living room and kitchen area. If enough volunteers are on hand we will also seal our gutters and finish installing down spouts. And of course, we always take care of volunteers!
Work days will occur regularly each month on the 2nd and 4th Saturday. Beginning in June, we will start at 8am so we can avoid as much heat as we can. In June, this will be the 6th and the 20th. We have several walls and areas needing framing so this will be an ongoing project. Our next step in construction is the installation of sewer and drain lines, this will cost $100,000 so it cannot be started until the money is raised. We can also split the project between wings and will allow part of the construction to start if the overall amount is not raised at one time. By doing the construction with volunteers and donated labor, it is lowering our overall costs though it is taking longer for completion.
Even though the building is not complete, we are still available to help Veterans in need. Thanks to the Crossroads Gang, a local Veteran and his spouse were gifted a new working stove and refrigerator. A female Veteran was donated a full 2 bedroom apartment of furniture and household items for when she leaves Sober Living. We are actively working with Veterans in need in our community and look for to helping many more!

The 2026 March of Honor is in the books and we could not have done it without our sponsors and partners so we want to make sure we say thank you and let them know how much we appreciate their support.
