We are always grateful for the opportunity to tour the New Generations Family Birthing Center at Harris Regional Hospital, where many of our moms welcome their babies into the world. We were excited to have our summer intern, Zailiana Blythe, join us for this valuable learning experience.

We recently finished our 2026 Indigenous Logic Model Cohort! Over the past several months, returning cohort members helped guide this year’s participants through graphic recording, visualizing concepts, and other tools for storytelling.

Last week, we gathered for our May Mother’s Gathering! This month’s topic focused on the benefits of bull nettle. After learning about its traditional uses, the mothers created bull nettle necklaces for their babies and spent the evening together sharing conversation, connection, and a meal.

The Judaculla’s Kids Conservation Club concluded its program year with a final field trip to Judaculla Rock. Dr. Tom Belt, an Earth Keeper, spoke with students about the importance of place and carrying Cherokee stories forward through action and responsibility. Students reflected on caring for the land, water, plants, and animals in the spirit of Judaculla.
The club then traveled to downtown Sylva to learn about bioretention cells and how they help protect waterways and support biodiversity. Jake Scott from the Town of Sylva shared how these systems help cool, slow, and clean stormwater runoff. The day ended with boba tea from Sweet Tea Boba, pizza, and time together at the park.

Today, May 19, 2026, CNH held a staff retreat at UltraStar in the Harrah’s Cherokee Casino. The retreat focused on leadership and organizational development informed by the Hogan Assessment tool.
Andrea Martinez of Cowee Consultants facilitated the retreat. She stated, “Our goal is not to find solutions. It is an opportunity to continue to grow as professionals, as a staff, and to keep the culture of CNH healthy so that you all can continue to do the amazing work that you are doing in the community.”
After meaningful conversation and reflection, our team spent time bowling together and strengthening relationships with one another!
