For many families, a trip to the movie theater is a simple night out.

For many autism families, it’s anything but simple.

Before we even leave the house, we’re thinking about things most people never have to consider:

🎬 Will the sound be too loud?
💡 Will the lights be overwhelming?
🍿 Will my child be able to sit through the movie?
👀 How will other people react if they make noises, stim, or need to move around?
🚪 What happens if we need to leave halfway through?

Many autistic children experience the world differently. What feels like a fun, relaxing activity for others can become a stressful and exhausting experience for both the child and their family.

Sometimes the hardest part isn’t the movie itself—it’s the fear of judgment. The stares. The whispers. The feeling that your family doesn’t quite fit into spaces that everyone should be able to enjoy.

That’s why sensory-friendly movie experiences matter. That’s why kindness matters. And that’s why inclusion matters.

Every child deserves the chance to enjoy the magic of the movies, and every family deserves to feel welcome while doing so.

We are hoping this experience does just that. Each autistic child signed up has a behavioral tech with them to help teach the skills of attending the movie! Hopefully their experience helps them overcome some obstacles they may encounter.💙

The group we have going is so excited! Please reach out! Your $30 donation covers admission, popcorn, candy, a drink, and a Toy Story toy for a child with autism!

We went to U of M again yesterday. We will be closely monitoring the other syndrome they see.

As many of you know, he also attends therapy. He was dropped on the days to attend because he is not tolerating the therapy. What was supposed to look like 1-2 weeks and start building it back up has us now entering week 6 of the same amount of dropped hours!!

We discussed a new med change to run for trial. It is difficult for us as we do not like meds and we truly don’t even want him on them! Whatever helps him we are willing to do. We made it very clear that we don’t want him a zombie. I don’t mind his wild and crazy self. That’s who he is. I just don’t want him hurting himself. We need to not change his personality because he is perfect the way he is 💙
He got a haircut (which never goes well) and After that appointment we went to THREE splash pads on the way home! He loved every minute of that!

Also adding that he did attend the power wheel races this weekend thank you to a WONDERFUL lady named Hannah who invited him to this race she sponsored! It was so great to talk with her and she had wonderful and helpful resources to gather information to help him get what he needs. Thank you to all who came to watch him! She even had a special trophy made for him 💙🥹

We just got home! Here is the update:

🧩Little Calvin has to go for another round of treatment to help with the bowels, which will require him to go under anesthesia again.
🧩A behavior plan is being put in place to help us on our visits while we are there. (Accommodations for waiting times, treatment times, speaking with doctors, etc.)
🧩We go back down Monday for another visit!
🧩Stopped at the spray park on the way home to cool off from our long day 🙂 While we were there a little girl wanted some of Little Calvin’s pizza so we gave her some. She let me know that Little Calvin was soooooo cute 🤭 I told her, “he is, but boys have cooties” and she agreed with the response, “I know, my dad and brother do too”😂

EDIT TO ADD: Little Calvin usually will never sit on the medical table so that was a win! He also tolerated his weight being taken (easily) and height (not so much) this time around!
We also did some walking around in the busy city area to practice not eloping and staying with mom 💙 added a photo! Yes, he also really needs a haircut which we are struggling with tolerating at this time.
