The Lake Whitney Amateur Radio Society will be out at the Lake Whitney State Park this weekend for Texas State Parks on the Air.

We will be setting up at 3pm on Friday the 17th. The event on the air begins at 7pm and goes through Sunday the 19th until 6:59pm.

We rented 2 shelters #8 and #10 next to swimming and day use area for plenty of parking.

In addition, we will be having our Spring Picnic on Sunday at 11:30am at the same location and will provide main dish of bratwurst and smoked sausage. Bring a dish to add to the meal if you want.

There will be room if you want to tent camp or stay in one of the shelters.

We will have one station to operate on hopefully 10-80 meters but 10-20 meters for sure.

We can always use help setting up and also take down. Modes will be SSB. CW (bring your own key) and FT8-FT4. We wil have an Icom IC-7300 radio so if you want to bring a key make sure to have plug to fit that radio. You can always bring your own radio if desired.

We will be logging contacts as POTA and TSPOTA for the club. We look forward to seeing everyone and having a full weekend of radio fun and fellowship. Bring family or friends. All are welcome.

PUBLIC NOTICE - WHITNEY AREA SCHEDULED TXNP POWER OUTAGE - UPDATED

Texas-New Mexico Power (TNMP) notified the City of Whitney that a planned overnight power outage is scheduled from midnight on Tuesday, November 18 (TONIGHT), through 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 19. Currently, the weather is predicted to be in the low 70’s to high 60’s with no severe weather potential DURING the outage. Additionally, rain chances look to be holding off until approximately 7am, and that is just when the chances begin to increase, real rain chances increase Wednesday evening and are best for Thursday.

This outage is predicted to have possible impacts on the entire City of Whitney, it may also impact County residents along State Highway 22 from Whitney to the DAM. Additionally, it may also impact County residents in the areas South of Whitney, along FM 933 to FM 1534. Please keep in mind, this is only for Texas-New Mexico Power Customers!

We have also spoken with representatives from HILCO Water and Hill County Water. Both companies have advised this could also impact water pressure and water availability during the outage period.

Please plan accordingly for this event. While Texas-New Mexico Power has assured us they will do everything in their power to limit the impact of the outage, it is always best to plan for the worst! Per TNMP, this outage is necessary to continue their work on improving the Whitney Sub-Station. Emergency Notification will be going out to residents in the expected impacted areas this afternoon. No additional messages will be made pertaining to this event unless something changes. In the comments will be a picture of the estimated areas that may be impacted based on information given by TXNP.

PUBLIC NOTICE - WHITNEY AREA SCHEDULED TXNM POWER MAINTENANCE

Texas-New Mexico Power (TNMP) notified the City of Whitney that a planned overnight power outage is scheduled from midnight on Tuesday, November 18, through 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 19. Please make necessary preparations and stay weather aware leading up to this scheduled event.

We delayed posting this notice while we gathered additional details and confirmed that this outage may spread into the County areas. Specifically, State Highway 22 from Whitney to the Dam and FM 933 from Whitney to FM 1534.

Edit: After speaking with HILCO and Hill County Water, if there is a power outage in the areas identified outside the City limits, it will affect water availability/pressure.
