Healthy Communities - Northern Broome Welcome to the Healthy Communities - Northern Broome project! For now, we want to invite you to our first community forum.

We are a partnership of local organizations, schools, businesses, and community members working to improve the health of Northern Broome County. We're looking forward to working with you during the upcoming months; there will be plenty of opportunities to be involved! We will be meeting on Tuesday, February 28th at the Northern Broome Community Center (12 Strongs Place, Whitney Point). Please join

us for refreshments and learn more about our projects! The Rural Health Network of South Central NY and Healthy Communities – Northern Broome are encouraging local residents to attend a public information meeting on the Rehabilitation/Replacement of the Whitney Point Bridge.

On November 1, 2012 at 6:30 the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) will host a meeting to solicit comments, concerns, and ideas regarding the Whitney Point Bridge and NYSDOT’s rehabilitation and rehabilitation alternatives. The meeting will be hosted in the auditorium of Whitney Point High School (10 Keibel Road, Whitney Point, NY), and it will be in an open house format, with a formal presentation at 7:00 pm.

This is an opportunity for your voice to be heard. If you have ideas, concerns or questions about the upcoming bridge project, please plan to attend the meeting on November 1st.

Don't forget Whitney Point Preschool's Paddle Party tomorrow night at the Lisle Fire Station. Doors open at 6:15 for a peak at the auction items, with the party beginning at 7pm. It all benefits the Preschool/Daycare center. For more information call, 607-692-3313.

A Health Fair will be held on Friday, August 24th at the Lisle Fire Department from 11:30am – 1:30pm. Representatives from the Rural Health Network, United Health Services, the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Faith in Action, the Whitney Point Senior Center, the Friendship Tree, the Parish Nurse Program, and other special guests will be on site with activities and information for attendees.

The health fair is open to the public – please join us for fun activities and learn more about the services in the community that can help you! The summer food program will also be on site to serve lunch to local children and their parents. If you have school-aged children (K-12) who will be joining us for lunch on Friday, August 24th, please call Kelly Kooiman at (607) 692-4330 and leave a message with the number of meals.
