Tonight as a result of the board voting. We voted in favor to step back this season and to have the school offer Flag football up through 6th grade and middle school football for 7th and 8th. Our strong cheer program 1st-6th will be offered by WLCR and overseen by the High School head coach. The 7th and 8th grade cheer will as be part of the school sponsored athletics also overseen by the HS coach. 1st through 6th grade athletes looking for more information please reach out to Brad McCormack via email at the address below. Or wait for information to come out soon from WLCR.

We as a board whom have watched the participation levels drop over the last decade believe this is the right move to hopefully breath life into the sport and spark interest. This is the method that many communities are either looking at or already doing and have proven success. Notable Chelsea comes to mind who does not offer tackle football until 7th grade.

Please understand that WLJF&C is not going away. We are simply stepping back to hopefully do what is right by the kids. Our program will remain active and funded. Plans to meet at the end of the season to discuss the outcome have already began. We wish nothing but the best for our community and its athletes. We look forward to the advancement of the two sports but mostly the advancement our our young athletes.

Go Trojans!

*Attention please read*

Last night we opened up discussion with Whitmore Lake Public Schools concerning football and its future in Whitmore Lake. The school administrators have a good game plan together to bring middle school football back to Whitmore Lake and offer flag football for K-6th grade. The cheer program would be blended into the school as well with aspirations to cheer at the available games and to continue to perform at the AUPANG cheerfest. Both the cheer program and the tackle football program would be governed by the high school coaching staff and the flag program would continue to be offered by WLCR. We as a board believe that moving forward together with the school governing the program is the right choice for the future of these sports. The school has the appropriate staff to sustain the program and help it grow. Our volunteer ran program has continued to shrink in size (participation) and volunteer help is in short order. We will be setting up a meeting and asking anyone who would like to offer their opinion supporting or against the idea of closing our program and allowing the school to assume the responsibility. We will keep the communication open with the public to make sure there is as much information pushed out as possible. Please keep an eye on social media and email accounts for the date of the meeting for public opinion.

Thank you for your support!

Whitmore Lake Community...PLEASE READ! As of recent years out program has be shrinking slowly in participants and in volunteers. First and foremost our program is here to offer kids a chance to get off the couch and be active be it football or cheer. The sport of football has been under attack for many reasons and fielding a team at some levels has been very challenging. If your son, daughter, nephew, niece, or even your neighbors kid is interested in cheering or football please give them the opportunity to come out and try sports. Recent changes in culture has left physical activity by the way side for some of our youth.

GET THE KIDS OFF THE COUCH AND ON THE FIELD

Finally our volunteers list is very short... we are in need of people to help keep our program running very bad. If you are at all interested in the program having a tomorrow then please attend our next board meeting. We need help in many ways and many of our volunteers are on their last season with the program. If people do not step up or program WILL NOT HAVE A FUTURE. This is a grim reality indeed but the truth so if you are at all interested please make it to the next board meetings. I will continue to post here to update the progress this season. If we come up short we may have to cancel teams or even programs altogether.

Thank you for reading!!!
