Please join us in congratulating Fire Alarm Dispatcher Scott Hanratty on becoming the first recipient of the Commissioner Robert S. Tucker Fire Dispatcher Medal!

In the early hours of September 20th 2024, FAD Hanratty received a phone call from a frantic civilian who was trapped with her mother in a fire on the 2nd floor of their home. FAD Hanratty obtained critical information while calming the caller, and within 29 seconds of answering the phone fire companies were responding.

FAD Hanratty stayed on the line with the caller and obtained critical information of where the occupants were trapped in the house and immediately relayed this information to the responding units via the radio dispatcher. FAD Hanratty was able to pinpoint the occupants exact location in the house and provide that guidance to the responding units.

While on the phone, the caller began to lose consciousness and FAD Hanratty remained on the line keeping her engaged as best as possible to remain conscious. While on the phone the victim eventually became unconscious and FAD Hanratty remained on the line until he could hear the Fire Department radio in the background confirming the women were located.

It is directly because of FAD Hanratty and the members of the Brooklyn Central Office that 2 lives were saved at this incident.

Thank you to the members of the Brooklyn Central Office, and Fire Alarm Dispatcher Scott Hanratty for demonstrating why New York City’s Fire Alarm Dispatchers are the Best Damn Dispatchers in the World!

We would like to congratulate our own Assistant Commissioner of Communications Nicholas Lamberti on graduating the FDNY Officers Management Institute! This program is very intensive and is offered by Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs to better strengthen the management of the FDNY.

Fire Alarm Dispatcher Kamyra McCallum joined the FDNY in 2018. Driven by a deep desire to contribute to public safety and to serve her city, FAD McCallum says she joined the FDNY because she wanted to be part of something bigger than herself—something that truly makes a difference.

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week is held annually during the second full week of April, honoring the unseen heroes of public safety. The Department is proud to recognize FAD McCallum and the critical, lifesaving assistance she provides to our members and the public.

“I am beyond proud to represent the FDNY’s Fire Alarm Dispatchers. The work our men and women do day in and day out make a direct impact in saving lives of our fellow New Yorkers. The dedication of our Fire Alarm Dispatchers is unmatched by any other in the world. This year, being the 25th Anniversary of the September 11th Attacks, I look back on the effort of those members working that day and the dedication of all of our members past and present to continue to our bureau’s legacy of greatness. Our members truly are the Best Damn Dispatchers in the World, and I am proud to represent you.”
