GivingTuesday may seem far away, but it's time to start thinking about how you can participate this year! On August 19, we want to help Letcher County nonprofits start planning for their campaigns.

We invite anyone connected to a nonprofit in Letcher County to join us and the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky for a virtual informational session and conversation about your invitation to join this GivingTuesday! Foundation staff will be sharing details about GivingTuesday as a global movement, the campaign, and why community campaigns work.

As an added bonus, any nonprofit that registers and attends will be entered to win a prize of $250!

Today, we join communities across the nation in recognizing Juneteenth, a day that commemorates freedom, resilience, and the enduring pursuit of equality.

At the Letcher County Community Foundation, we believe strong communities are built when every individual has the opportunity to thrive. As we reflect on this day, we celebrate the strength of communities and the importance of creating opportunities for all.

Happy Juneteenth!

Today is KY Gives Day, and the Letcher County Community Foundation Board Members are asking you to support the Boulder Run Disc Golf Course Fund.

This community project, led by the Letcher County Community Foundation, will help create and sustain a free-to-use disc golf course in Jenkins, Kentucky. The Boulder Run Disc Golf Course will provide a new outdoor recreational opportunity for local residents while encouraging healthy activity and community engagement.

The course also has the potential to boost tourism in Letcher County, as disc golf enthusiasts often travel to experience new and unique courses. This project can bring new visitors, positive economic impact, and increased visibility to our mountain community.

Your donation today helps invest in recreation, tourism, and the future of Letcher County.

During April’s Volunteer Month, we want to take a moment to recognize the incredible individuals who serve on our Letcher County Community Foundation Board.
Their leadership, vision, and commitment help guide the mission and strengthen the communities we serve every single day. They give their time, share their expertise, and lead with purpose—and we are deeply grateful.
Because of Jeffery Justice, Angie Hatton, Heather Burton, Addison Whitaker, Larissa Bailey, Valerie Horn, Damian Johnson, and Rachel Breeding, meaningful change is not only possible—it’s happening in Letcher County.
Thank you for your service and for believing in the power of community.

Our community is our home—and caring for it starts with the world around us. 🌎

This Earth Day, we’re reminded that small actions can lead to lasting change. From protecting our natural spaces to supporting sustainable initiatives, every effort helps build a healthier future for all.

At the Letcher County Community Foundation, we’re proud to partner with local organizations and neighbors who are working to preserve and strengthen the environment we share.

Art connects us—across cultures, generations, and experiences. On World Art Day, we celebrate the creativity that lives in every corner of Letcher County.

From murals and quilts that tell our shared stories to classrooms where imagination takes shape, art helps us see the world—and each other—differently.

At the Letcher County Community Foundation, we’re proud to support local artists, educators, and organizations who make our community more vibrant, inclusive, and inspired every day.

Join us in celebrating the power of art to bring people together.
