Workforce Development
The goal of workforce development is two-fold: to expose laymen to various careers in the trades and to help dispel a common misconception that a construction career only means laying pipe or swinging a hammer.
The field of construction is very diverse and there are many different opportunities such as architecture, engineering, design, drafting, construction management, and estimating that require a college degree. There are also apprenticeship programs available for several trades, including plumbing and electrical. Such programs require a student to attend school, but allow the student to get paid training and tuition reimbursement upon completion of the coursework. Skilled trades include crafts such as bricklaying, concrete finishing, welding, plumbing, electrical, materials testing, and carpentry.
With hard work, ambition and a positive attitude, construction opportunities will afford anyone a comfortable life; not only for themselves, but for their families as well. In our industry, the public should be given every opportunity to discover the wealth of good paying construction jobs that are available with or without a college degree.
