Be sure to get your horses booster vaccinated! EHV-1

Because this is the beginning of many activities, shows and parades there needs to be a reminder of having bio security. There are isolated cases in Texas and Maryland but this video is a reminder of last year. It’s been circulating again and has good information.

Because EHV-1 can lie dormant in horses and reactivate during times of stress (like transport or competition), veterinarians and organizations like the Texas Animal Health Commission emphasize ongoing biosecurity:

• Temperature Monitoring: Checking your horse's temperature twice daily, especially when traveling.
• Isolation: Keeping new or returning horses isolated from the rest of the herd for up to 21 days.
• Sanitation: Not sharing water buckets, tack, or grooming equipment at large equine gatherings

www.equinesafehaven.com is looking for some volunteers that are experienced English or Western riders or carriage drivers, that can volunteer some time to do tune ups and/or put some hours on - exercise some of the beautiful AQHA and Standardbred horses that we’ve had on pasture this year and need to work with and get in shape. We ride Trail, Western, English, Roping and Carriage Driving.

Need experience, as you would help getting these guys ready for show & parade season, and for those “beginners” that will be learning horsemanship and riding with us. Do you want to show or compete? - no problem, PICK OUT A HORSE and work with it for the fall/winter season! Want to contribute? Lease or sponsor a horse.

You’d need to know how to groom, tack up your horse, cool down, tack off, and care for it. This isn’t for someone that doesn’t know basics of ground work.
