June 19, 2026 DEADLINE (Ecological Survey)
The deadline to complete Metro Planning’s Ecological Conservation Strategy is JUNE 12. Your voice is important.

District One has the largest geographical area of forests, hills, streams, creeks, steep slopes, farm lands, and historical areas and landmarks than other districts in Davidson County.

This area is extremely worthy of conservation and protection as the tree canopy and watersheds are important to Davidson County (cooling nearby urban areas of densely populated Nashville). The area lies within the Nashville Highland Rim Forest too, possibly the world’s largest urban forest.

Please take 10-15 minutes of your time to complete the survey and let Planning know what is important to you. Survey:

Metro Planning has launched the Ecological Conservation Strategy (ECS) to shape a future where Nashville continues to grow and thrive while preserving the landscapes ecosystems and sense of place that makes it unique. This is Nashville s first countywide plan for understanding the effects of recent....

📣 Who We Are and What We Do

You asked …

Friends of Whites Creek was first formed in 2017 by a small group of dedicated volunteers primarily to address unwanted sprawl and large housing developments in Whites Creek, in order to preserve the rural natural environment. Smart growth was the vision of the group, not huge subdivisions that strain the infrastructure, destroy habitat, cause increased flooding and traffic concerns, and obliterates view sheds.

In 2019, the Board of Directors and Officers were formed and regular meetings were held. We developed bylaws and a charter as a nonprofit organization. In July 2024, we became a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit neighborhood organization chartered with the state and federal government. That took many hours of volunteer work with a pro bono attorney.

FOWC wanted to also be a neighbors group that would partner with our schools, provide educational opportunities to residents, promote conservation, and much more. Then the pandemic hit in early 2020 and put us on a different track. Zoom meetings kept us going and we didn’t falter.

Since 2021 we have hosted many events for the community: lots of “creek week” cleanups, four Block Parties, six Trail of Tears Commemorative Walks cohosted with the Whites Creek Historical Society, and numerous holiday party/donation/sock drives. We also partner with our local schools for clothing and supply drives as needed.

Over the past nine years we have earned recognition and trust by working with developers, the Metro Planning Commission and our Council representative to press for the best, and fight when necessary to protect the land we call home.

We are highly committed to our mission and have worked to keep the community informed and engaged. FOWC members attend local community meetings, planning commission meetings and council meetings that take a good amount of time. Developing strategy plans and negotiating does too. We are committed to the cause and mission.

FOWC and our great community has successfully warded off unwanted subdivisions that you may or may not have known about. We don’t want to be braggarts but we are a group of really knowledgeable and multi-talented volunteers that know land use policy, and work to ensure that policy is followed by the developers.

We were one of the first alliance members with Conserve Nashville's Highland Rim Forest.

FOWC is casting the net again to include more folks to join us. It’s quite difficult to keep you informed entirely through social media and emails. In person is always better. We are a small but mighty fun group that always needs more support to help grow and evolve.

So, if the Mission of Friends of Whites Creek speaks to you, please consider visiting with us. It might just be your favorite cup of tea.

Our next Board meeting is Sunday, June 14 at 4:00pm at the Little Creek Community Club, 7630 Old Hickory Blvd, Whites Creek.

Sincerely,
Lisa Proctor
President

Many thanks to the friends that came by for the Drop In Social we hosted last night. We had a very small turnout and it was fun. We will have another Social on July 18th. Drop a suggestion here … what would help increase attendance? Free food was offered and we had a lot leftover. Would you be interested in games? bingo? Karaoke?
