Rebecca volunteered to educate some local homeschoolers and preschoolers at Stokes Brown Library today about chickens. We discussed topics like the life cycle of chickens, breeds, purposes, early history of chickens, body parts of the bird, proper handling, candling eggs, and how to tell a hen from a rooster. All in all it was a great turnout, and people who currently own chickens even said they learned something new! If you’re sad that you missed this demonstration please contact us to schedule a demonstration or visit our calendar on our website to see our upcoming events. The next chicken demonstration will be at Heritage Days April 28th, 29th, and 30th from 9am to 2pm come on out and see us!

Last night the Three Sisters Heritage Center Inc. proudly accepted a grant from the Goodlettsville Chamber of Commerce, we were one of 6 nonprofits who were awarded grants for commitment in serving the Goodlettsville community. This grant was awarded specifically for our education of hands on history through programs like Heritage Days which is coming up in April. We are so excited to use this grant to build up our programming for the coming year and are deeply humbled to have been chosen amongst the nonprofits serving the Goodlettsville community. Thank you to all of our supporters!

With Winter Storm Fern came amazing photo opportunities. Here are some photos Rebecca took around the property during the past week and a half. Though we were without power for 9.5 days we made it thanks to the collection of furs that we use for our Fur Trade demonstration. In fact we were wearing a lot of our wool garments for living history to stay warm! This makes us think back on our ancestors and those who settled here about how hard they worked to stay warm in such harsh weather. This was an opportunity to get a good sense of what it took to survive back in the 18th century.

With this time of year we have the weather to cooperate with, and sometimes that weather dictates what our outdoor activities will be like. As there has been consistent risk for thunderstorms on both the 7th and the 8th we will be postponing our Semi Annual meeting to the following Saturday, which at this time seems like it will be colder but hopefully decent weather for all who join! We’re so sorry for the inconvenience to all who were invited, and hope to see you next Saturday.

Throwback Thursday to our second event ever — the Red River Rendezvous, October 2021!
We were so green at the time, we didn’t even know the difference between a rendezvous and a living history event. 😅
But that didn’t stop us from having a fantastic weekend surrounded by wonderful people and unforgettable experiences.
Every step has been a learning adventure, and we’re grateful for how far we’ve come!
