I Love these!! They all are absolutely adorable!!

I receive lots of questions on items we need or could use and I always say the main staples: bibs, burp cloths, hats, octopuses, blankets, etc. However, these kinds of items we would also love to put in our baby bags. We would just ask to have the eyes and noses embroidered. Even though these are safety eyes and noses some of our agencies prefer them to not be used in case a child does pull them apart and it becomes a choking hazard.

A special thank you to Crystal and Louise Lawson for joining us again! 💕 They are also members of Project Linus of East Tennessee and create the most adorable handmade items for the babies we serve. We are so lucky to have such talented and generous volunteers sharing their time, creativity, and hearts with Newborns in Need East Tennessee. 🩷

Today I was thinking how it’s amazing how connections are made with and for Newborns in Need! Several weeks ago I was in Hobby Lobby (Perrysburg/Rossford) buying some fabric and yarn and Vaughn was cutting the fabric and we started talking and I said how C.S. Mott Children's Hospital was in need of octopuses for their NICU. Vaughn told me how she has a friend in Texas (yep the state of Texas!) who crochets and sends her octopuses, but Vaughn lost her person who she passed them on to as a donation. Thankfully for us, someone must have had a hand in connecting Vaughn & myself because I picked up these 18 beautiful octopuses, this afternoon! Unfortunately, Vaughn was busy at the register so I didn’t get to ask her friends name, but I want to send out a huge THANK YOU to both Vaughn & her friend! Your donation not only is appreciated by Newborns in Need of NW Ohio but the NICU department will also greatly appreciate your donation!

Our June meeting is scheduled for this Monday, June 15th at 4:30pm in the basement of First Presbyterian Church of Waterville. We will be assembling blue Essential bags for a couple of agencies who have reached out needing to restock their cupboard. Plus, another agency is having a Community Shower event and I promised 2-3 bags for them to use as door prizes.

Also, I just want to remind all volunteers, we do not meet during the month of July. So our next scheduled meeting after this Monday will be August 17th!

Hope to see everyone on Monday and if you can’t make it, have a great couple of months and I’ll see you in August!!

With your help, we are able to purchase items like diapers, wipes, bottles, grooming kits, and thermometers to put in our Essentials Bags. As of today, Thrivent has deposited $1,759.00 into our bank account!

Early reminder for our May Meeting:

Let's see how many crocheted octopi we can pack up to send to C.S. Mott Children's Hospital! I currently have 9 finished! Going to challenge myself to have 20 for our meeting.

Where are my crocheters? A volunteer at our meeting tonight talked about meeting a nurse from C.S. Mott Children's Hospital NICU department. In their conversation, the nurse said they were completely out of crochet octopi 🐙. We would love to restock their supply for their littlest patients and their families.

Our only request for the octopus is that if you plan to make eyes on the octopus, please only embroider these features, as plastic safety eyes and such are safety and choking risks.

I'm posting a great article about the octopi, and at the bottom is a free pattern; however, you can use any crochet pattern of your choice.
