Blaze is adopted! He loves his new sister and is doing well.

Blaze is a 5-year-old healthy, neutered male in Northern NJ with many sweet qualities that needs a Vizsla experienced home. He is handsome and moderate in size, around 50 lbs, and has been well cared for. His new family must be patient and kind to help him blossom, as he needs socialization! Blaze is fearful from lack of exposure to the world outside his home, and this is not his fault. His owners are kind, but they are from a cultural background that doesn’t own dogs and they never knew what to do with a Vizsla. Blaze was bought as a puppy to give their girls experience with dogs. He loves his family, and his girls and mom are his favorites. The girls are leaving for school and Mom is working more. He is bonded with the husband and grandfather too, but he loves his ladies more. Blaze is not an aggressive dog and has never bit anyone. He just will hide or pull away if he’s uncomfortable.
Some background…Blaze has lives in one gated room in the home and his fenced yard. His crate is his safe place, and he is kept in it when visitors come over. So, is fearful of visitors and barks. He loves his yard, but barks at passersby. This boy has so much potential! He just doesn’t know how to be a Vizsla.
The process has been long to fully assess Blaze and check him with other dogs. He’s had multiple home visits by different volunteers and playdates with other Vizslas at a volunteer’s home. These drop-off playdates are getting him used to being in another environment. He is great with female Vizslas! He needs one or more to love and learn from. He even loves the obnoxious puppy girl. Blaze has not been assessed with any males, but he could be too easily dominated by a male, and that won’t help his fear.
An ideal home will be an experienced owner who is willing to socialize and train Blaze with at least one female Vizsla. He can be in a home with children over twelve, as loves his teenage girls, and needs a fenced yard. We prefer regional adoptions and do not transport long distance. Email [email protected]

“When I first met Blaze, he hung back quietly, unsure of the world around him and taking everything in from a safe distance. There’s a softness to him—a gentle, thoughtful presence that makes you want to move slowly, to earn his trust on his terms. And then, something beautiful happens.
In just a matter of minutes, he began to open up. Almost as if he made a decision, Blaze slowly made his way into the living room and sat right up against my leg. It felt like he was choosing comfort, choosing closeness, and quietly saying, “I think I’m safe with you.” From there, what started as cautious curiosity turned into connection—he allowed me to pet his soft head, and when I stopped, he gently nudged my hand, asking for more. It was such a simple moment, but it said everything about who he is underneath the uncertainty: a truly sweet, affectionate boy who wants to trust and be loved.
Blaze reminds me so much of a young puppy still learning about the world—like a 5-month-old who simply hasn’t had the chance to experience enough yet. He’s not shut down; he’s just new to it all. Every sound, every movement, every interaction is something he’s trying to understand. And with each positive experience, you can almost see his confidence growing in real time.
One of the most reassuring things about Blaze is how well he does with female dogs. Around them, he shows a calm, respectful demeanor and even seems to take comfort in their presence. He also appears to warm up to women a bit faster, though he is completely fine with men as well—he simply may take a little extra time to feel comfortable. A home with a gentle female dog could be incredibly beneficial for him, helping guide him and show him that the world isn’t such a scary place after all.
Blaze will need a patient, understanding adopter—someone who sees the beauty in his sensitivity and is willing to give him the time and space he needs to come out of his shell. But for the right person, the reward will be something truly special. Because once he trusts you, it won’t be halfway—it will be with his whole heart.
