Montana Kayak Academy provides a series of free, introductory instructional clinics for Flathead Youth between the ages of 8-18 with an emphasis on fundamental whitewater skills and river etiquette. It is our mission to offer quality educational opportunities taught by certif

ied ACA (American Canoe Association) instructors with help from local volunteers. We realize that kayaking can be an expensive endeavor for a parent to outfit their child in proper equipment. For this reason, we have established a platform to provide equipment and gear necessary to attain the knowledge and proficiency in order to enjoy the sport. We look forward with great anticipation and excitement to the future of this organization and the chance to share our dream.

Growing up in Montana, the river becomes more than just a place to paddle, it becomes a place to learn, grow, build confidence, and find your people.

For pro kayaker Darby McAdams , being part of a kayak club played a huge role in shaping her journey. Clubs give young paddlers a place to discover the sport, develop their skills, and build lifelong connections with their community.

Another successful 3-Day Intro to Kayaking course is in the books.
This week, six students ranging in age from 10 to 60 started with little to no whitewater experience and spent three days building the skills and confidence to safely run the river. From wet exits and eddy turns to ferrying, reading the river, and even rolling, it was amazing to watch everyone’s progression.
If you’ve ever wanted to learn to kayak or build more confidence on moving water, we’d love to have you join us. We offer Intro to Kayaking courses throughout the summer for all experience levels.

FREE Kids... and adult nights!!

We are heading to the river with all of our alumni! It you have completed a 3-day intro with us, we would love to continue your journey as a kayaker. This course is about growing your confidence on the water and growing
this amazing river community! Join us once a week on a section of class 2 whitewater in the Flathead. Jump in the van with new friends and old, and let’s go kayaking!

Courses will start at our unit at 4 pm. Outfit gear, load boats, and head to the water. Limited spots, so sign up now.

Cost: $5-$10 gas donation recommended.
Gear is not included in the price but available to rent. $50
for full setup.

Last weekend, we loaded up the MKA van and headed to the Gallatin Whitewater Festival!

Our students got to paddle alongside old friends, meet tons of new ones, and experience one of Montana’s best whitewater events. We were also stoked to help support Wave Train, Bozeman’s incredible kayaking club, by lending a hand with shuttle runs throughout the weekend.

Huge thanks to everyone who made it such a great event. We can’t wait to come back next year and bring even more MKA students along for the adventure!

Our 3 Day Intro to Kayaking is built for complete beginners, no experience needed. Over three days, you’ll learn the foundations that every paddler builds on:

Wet exits (how to safely get out of your boat)
Paddle strokes (how to actually move where you want)
