In light of the recent bear activity in the area, we want to remind everyone to stay prepared while recreating in bear country.

The Cedar Flats Trail System is currently closed. Please respect the closure and stay safe.

FTA has free bear spray available for anyone who would like one. Reach out to us to get yours!

Carry bear spray, know how to use it, and stay bear aware out on the trails.

The Flathead Trails Association Spring Saw Training stats are in!

A huge thank you to everyone who participated in training this spring and helped make our Flathead Valley trail systems safer and more enjoyable for all users. Whether you ride, hike, bike, walk, or explore, these trained volunteers play a critical role in keeping our trails open and accessible.

This spring alone, participants logged 118 volunteer hours through our saw training program. We also offered First Aid & CPR courses to the public and partner organizations, with those impact numbers coming soon!

A special thank you to Rick Mathies and Jim Watson, who have led and grown this program over the past several years. Their dedication has helped build a vital resource for our trail community and local land managers.

As demand for training continues to grow, we’re working to certify additional trainers and expand our capacity to serve the Flathead Valley.

Thank you to everyone who continues to invest their time, skills, and energy into our trails!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Trails Fest 2026!

Attendees enjoyed delicious food from ZapoTaco - Formerly Dancing B***o and Sweet Peaks while listening to live music from Todd Cowart . The event featured partner booths from recreation and conservation organizations, family-friendly activities, outdoor education demonstrations, raffles, food vendors, and complimentary beverages donated by local breweries.

Trails Fest brings together hikers, bikers, equestrians, motorized users, paddlers, skiers, and other outdoor enthusiasts to celebrate and support a shared vision: accessible, sustainable, and well-maintained trails across Northwest Montana.

A huge thank you to our partners, sponsors, volunteers, vendors, and community members who helped make this event a success. We look forward to seeing you on the trails!

Trails Fest is this Sunday! 3-6pm at Smith Fields. We will have kids games, a kids bike course, A7 will be doing a speedy bike tune & Logan Health is giving out bike helmets!! It’s an awesome community event celebrating all the organizations behind the curtains of outdoor recreation in the Flathead. We will have food, kids drinks, Sweet Peaks Ice cream & free beer from local breweries!

Safety, skills, and stewardship in action! 🌲🪚

Today, Flathead Trails Association hosted a Chainsaw Safety & Certification Course, helping volunteers and trail stewards build the skills needed to safely maintain and improve our local trail systems.

A huge thank you to everyone investing their time to learn, train, and give back to the trails we all enjoy. These certifications are critical to keeping our trail crews safe and effective in the field. And a big thank you to chainsaw trainers Rick Mathies & Ron Brandt
