I thought I would pop in just to let you know how things are going at the farm. August is a beautiful month and while we’re still getting a few hot days, it’s mostly been in the mid-70’s - such a relief!

We are sorry for being a little absent on here. We are still dealing with our 7 senior buns who have entered their end of life stage - I guess it's hospice for bunnies. I am continuing to do what I'm calliing their "meal on wheels" - foraged and purchased organic "green" bowls - and aiding them in all the extra loving care they need. So far, they are all still here and we hope and pray for as much time as we can have with them. So long as they are happy and free from pain. On top of this 7, we have a younger bunny who presented with a twisted neck that our vet thinks could be a number of unpleasant things - most likely, a virulent strain of pasturella that came from the horrible place she was rescued from. She is on two different antibiotics twice a day and has to be hand-fed. Amazingly, she is still also with us and looks forward to her dandelion greens with the softest, brightest eyes that tells me she's trying very hard to survive. This past year has been really hard dealing with so many bunny losses from our mostly aged crew. Due to this situation and in an effort to keep them peaceful and quiet and free from outside stresses, we have stopped any new bunny intakes as well as visitors. Sadly, we are down to only 13 bunnies! We are hanging in there ourselves trying to get ahead with all our projects and care for all the other animals. Onwards and upwards. And trying our best to take the good with the bad. Losing animal friends is very tough, as so many of you know. Thank you to everyone for continuing to cheer us on and help with donations. You really are terrific and we appreciate all you do for the animals here. Jenny x

A record outbreak is taking a toll on wild rabbits 😥

Wildlife rescuers on the island of Guernsey, in the English Channel, say they're responding to the worst recorded outbreak of myxomatosis they've ever seen, with more than 500 wild rabbits affected so far this year. The virus can leave rabbits weak and unable to survive without care, and there is currently no cure once they're infected.

Veterinarians say warm weather and biting insects such as fleas and mosquitoes have likely contributed to the spread. They're also reminding pet rabbit owners to keep vaccinations up to date, as domestic rabbits can become infected too, even if they stay at home.
