Hickory Log Personal Care Home

Hickory Log Personal Care Home For 56 years, Hickory Log has been motivated to create an inclusive community for men with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.

We strive to create an encouraging and safe home for our residents. Hickory Log’s purpose is to love all people with a heart of compassion, service, and grace. Hickory Log Personal Care Home is also known as Hickory Log Vocational School. Our mission is to provide a safe place to call home for men with special needs. We are a private, non-profit personal care home that offers communal housing for

up to twenty-four men living with developmental or intellectual disabilities as well as those with traumatic brain injuries. Hickory Log currently houses eighteen residents, several of which have called Hickory Log home for over twenty years; some as long as forty-five years. The men receive vocational training, meals, shelter, medication, management, financial management, and have the opportunity to attend regular outings. We are located in the small community of White, Georgia which is in Bartow County. We have been serving men with special needs for over fifty years! Aided by immense community support and the investment of the Board of Directors, Hickory Log’s passionate staff foster a loving, supporting, and empowering environment in which our residents can call home.

Our gentleman attended the 2026 Summer Games at Emory University just a couple of weeks ago! We had several come home with their medals, but most importantly, their ear-to-ear smiles.
We feel so blessed to be able to transport our men to the three Special Olympics games every year! Thank you to all those who have donated. It is hearts like yours that give Hickory Log the opportunities to be of service to our men 💚

On April 20th, The Citizens of GA Power held a Golf Scramble naming Hickory Log as the beneficiary! With the joining of our community and the amazing dedication by Hickory Log's Board Member, Joe Sanchez, they were able to raise $29,000! With this amazing donation, we will be able to use every last cent to pour back into our guys and their home. We couldn't feel more blessed by everyone in the community, and it is people like y'all who help keep Hickory Log thriving! If you missed your chance with the Golf Scramble, don't worry, there is also a Pickleball Tournament at the end of this month!

It's time to fill up gas tanks and hit the road to travel along 411!
The 411 Spring Yard Sale is next week, starting on April 22nd. We are offering space once again this year for vendors to come and set up on our land here at Hickory Log. 🌳
How much for a spot? 🤔
Completely free, as it's one of our ways of trying to give back to the community that keeps on giving to us! The only condition is that we want you to take a minute to meet some of our wonderful residents. While traffic slows down or while our guys are down checking out what's for sale, say hello and get to know the amazing men in our home. They will definitely brighten your day!
Plan to set up a space? Just email KaitLyn at [email protected] to let her know that you would like a space, and how many days of the yard sale that you'll be setting up for!
Happy shopping to everyone who plans to come out!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
We had a sweet visitor come see our guys today. Elli Jolly, an Independent Insurance Agent and Senior Health Advisor, came this morning filled with joy. Our guys all sat down with her to enjoy games and snacks while learning the history behind today's holiday. Everyone was over the moon when they got to learn what their Irish name would be! What a way to get in the spirit this St. Patrick's Day. 🍀

It is with sad hearts that we come here today to inform our community of the passing of Mr. Pete Hankinson 🕊
This past Sunday, our Gentle Giant found his peace with our Lord. Though there are many tears to be shed, all of us here at Hickory Log continue to smile when we think back on all of our memories with Pete.
Please keep the Hankinson family, Hickory Log residents, and staff in your prayers as they navigate a life without the kindest soul to walk the earth. 💚

Earlier this month, our gentleman got to hang out with some of our good friends at Burnt Mountain Center. We also had a visit from some of our friends at BCIDD.
It's hard not to smile the whole time you're with this crowd, and these pictures definitely show that. We passed around stories and jokes, all with good vibes! Thank you to the men and women at Burnt Mountain Center for showing such wonderful hospitality.

Thank you to Tammy at Burnt Mountain Center, who reached out to us to get this second hangout planned. We're working on our side to plan to have everyone join us at Hickory Log!

Night to Shine is almost here, and we need your help to make sure our men are dressed in the best! To donate towards our men's tux rentals, CLICK HERE:: https://square.link/u/vuJ8ouej
For those who are not familiar with Night to Shine-
Night to Shine is a dance founded by the Tim Tebow Foundation. It began as a safe space for people with diagnosed disabilities to enjoy a night of fun. Inclusivity is a major foundation of this event, with the dance even providing a quiet space for those who become overstimulated. While many did not have a chance to attend high school dances, Night to Shine offers the chance to experience that while maintaining a safe and happy atmosphere for everyone. Every year, more and more places begin to host this event. Tabernacle Baptist Church is going on its 3rd year hosting the Night to Shine dance for Cartersville, GA, and we are so blessed to be able to attend. The Tabernacle Church puts a big emphasis on making sure the night is absolutely magical, and we at Hickory Log wish to do the same. That is why we partner with Riley's for our men's tux rentals.
We look to people in our community to help us offset these costs, and every cent is beyond appreciated.
