White Area Veterans Memorial A portion of paver bricks within each square of bricks will be available to have local veterans' names engraved on them.

This memorial honors all American veterans who, although separated by generations, shared a common, undeniable goal -- to valiantly protect our country's freedoms. More than 800 military veterans from Civil War veterans to currently serving military members have called the White, SD area home at one point throughout the community's history. All men and women who entered the service while a resident of the area or other veterans presently a resident of the area are eligible.

Just as the Declaration of Independence was read to the people on July 8th, 1776, there will be a reading of the Declaration on July 8th, 2026. This will be at 5:00 PM at the White White Area Veterans Memorial. After the reading in 1776, churches sounded their bells. If local churches would like to join the celebration, they are invited to sound their bells at 5:20 as the reading is estimated to take 20 minutes.

Greetings from the City of White:

The American Legion Post 88 Community Breakfast, which was scheduled for tomorrow (Sunday, 15MAR2026) has been canceled for this weekend due storm which is working its way across the region. They intend to see if there is a possibility for perhaps this coming Sunday, 22MAR2026, so please be on the lookout for further updates on if that will become reality.

Stay safe tomorrow during the storm, and travel only if absolutely necessary as the streets and roads are going to be extremely difficult with the wind and blowing snow anticipated.

The City will work on getting our streets cleaned off after the snow and wind dies down late Sunday evening or early Monday morning.

Stay warm out there.

Be well,
Mayor Lagerstrom
